Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) to perform clinical laboratory testing in compliance with
California state regulations, CLIA requirements, and laboratory quality standards. The CLS will perform, review, and certify laboratory test results, monitor QC and calibration activities, troubleshoot analytical issues, maintain laboratory equipment, and support investigations and quality improvement initiatives. The role may also provide supervision, training, and competency assessment for unlicensed testing personnel.





Key Responsibilities


- Perform approved laboratory tests according to established laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Review and certify laboratory results for accuracy before release.
- Review calibration and QC results to ensure they meet established specifications.
- Investigate inconsistent or questionable laboratory results and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
- Monitor QC data for shifts and trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Safely handle hazardous materials while following all laboratory safety procedures.
- Promptly report incidents, near misses, and chemical spills to EH&S.
- Clean, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate analytical laboratory equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation for: Calibration, QC acceptance, Equipment maintenance, Specimen handling, Results certification
- Assist with investigations involving specimen handling, analytical testing, production issues, and quality incidents.
- Assist in developing and approving SOPs and laboratory protocols.
- Provide training, supervision, and support to unlicensed testing personnel.
- Conduct and certify competency assessments as required by California regulations.
- Maintain professional knowledge and fulfill continuing education requirements for California CLS licensing.
- Follow all new and revised laboratory procedures as directed by management and laboratory leadership.
- Support Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities.






Required Qualifications


- Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license required.
- Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
- California CLS license may be in: Generalist, Toxicologist, Chemist
- Strong pipetting and computer skills.
- Ability to learn and effectively use LIMS/LIS systems.
- Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of staff.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in both laboratory and office environments with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.






Preferred Qualifications


- 2+ years of toxicology laboratory experience with mass spectrometry.
- Experience reviewing LC/MS/MS and/or GC/MS data in a toxicology laboratory.
- Alternatively, 5+ years of general clinical laboratory experience with knowledge of toxicology.
- Experience with analytical testing and laboratory quality systems.
