RN Infusion Oncology

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the outpatient infusion setting provides skilled nursing care primarily to hematology and oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other infusion treatments. The nurse manages patient assessments, chemotherapy teaching, vascular access, and collaborates closely with the oncology care team. This role requires strong independent clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and proficiency with infusion technology and electronic medical records.
Responsibilities:
• Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other infusion treatments to oncology and non-oncology patients.
• Perform patient assessments and provide chairside chemotherapy teaching and education.
• Manage IV, vascular, and port access procedures with strong technical skill.
• Monitor patient responses and manage infusion-related side effects or complications.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Document all nursing care and treatment accurately in the electronic medical record system.
• Operate and troubleshoot Alaris infusion pumps and utilize Epic EMR for patient management.
• Maintain compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills & Certifications:
• Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• 2 3 years of recent infusion nursing experience, preferably in hematology/oncology.
• Oncology certification related to chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system and Alaris infusion pumps.
• Strong IV, vascular access, and port access skills.
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
• Outpatient clinic experience in oncology infusion settings.
• Experience working independently managing a full patient assignment with minimal supervision.
Special Considerations:
• No weekend or holiday shifts; regular weekday schedule.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Ability to work within a small, community-based oncology practice.
• Must be able to obtain required occupational health clearances such as TB skin test.
Scheduling:
• Full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm shifts.
• Shift assignments are fixed with no rotating shifts or overnight hours.
