Travel RN - Med/Surg - Oncology

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a night-shift position requiring ONS chemotherapy certification and 2+ years of oncology nursing experience.

Requirements

• Active NJ or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card required (Fundamentals course not accepted, may be obtained prior to start if confirmed upon offer)
• OCN certification preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy and infusions, including port access, blood/blood product administration, coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, central-line blood draws, and PICC/central/implanted-line care
• Skilled in chemotherapy administration and monitoring, including continuous infusion, IV push, and oral chemo, along with post-chemo body-fluid handling and cytotoxic-spill management
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
• Experience with psychosocial care including advance directives, hospice care, and patient/family education
• Skilled in symptom management including altered mental status, nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, dysphagia, and edema
• Experience administering pain management medications, including IV-push narcotics and transdermal patches
• Additional clinical skills required: care coordination, chest tube care, colostomy/ileostomy management, foley catheter insertion, dysrhythmia interpretation, isolation precautions/PPE, neutropenic precautions, and telephone triage
• Flu vaccine required, medical/religious exemptions accepted with required mask use

Responsibilities

• Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit with telemetry monitoring capability
• Cares for chemo patients, patients with past/present cancer diagnoses, and inpatient hospice patients requiring general inpatient care
• Unit does not accept patients with infections that may compromise the oncology population, COVID-19, airborne isolation, or peritoneal dialysis patients
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Every other weekend requirement (Sat/Sun)
• Every other holiday required
• Epic charting experience required
• Assigned to a home unit but will float to other MS/Tele units as needed
• Scrubs of any color permitted
• Provide direct nursing care to oncology and hospice patients including chemotherapy administration and symptom management
• Collaborate with pediatric teams and interdisciplinary staff for patient/family support and end-of-life care
• Unit staffed by certified nurses specializing in cancer services and features 14 private rooms with ceiling lifts and negative/positive pressure rooms for infection control
• Unit has earned the national Silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses
• Facility is a community teaching hospital and part of a large integrated healthcare network
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Up to two consecutive PTO days may be requested during the Dec 15-Jan 5 winter period, with additional requests considered case-by-case
• All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted at time of consideration and are subject to unit needs
