### The Oncology Internship Program
Our Global Oncology Internship Program is a comprehensive learning and professional experience at one of the world’s leading health care companies. It is designed to build a future pool of talent and candidates who may pursue other opportunities at Johnson & Johnson upon successfully completing their degree program. This internship is a **full-time** opportunity lasting approximately 12 weeks, from **May 10th to August 13th, 2027**. We work on a **hybrid model** if you are not lab based, meaning you will be asked to report on site three times a week and can work remotely twice a week.
As a summer intern in the Oncology Discovery Scientist role, you will become a member of a team dedicated to the research and development of new therapeutics. You will be assigned a mentor and have the opportunity to work with the oncology teams. Interns are expected to present their work to their project teams, the Oncology Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and are required to present their primary research project as a poster/abstract at the annual global summer intern research symposium towards the end of the internship.
The goal of this program is to provide undergraduate and graduate students with experience in a large pharmaceutical R&D setting and an understanding of the science and process of novel drug development. You will have the opportunity to learn new aspects of disease biology and ways to identify novel therapeutics or drug targets, and/or determine the mechanism of action behind emerging drugs. Students also receive training on technology platforms such as **ELISA, PCR, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, cell culture, cell-based functional assays, and computational approaches like single-cell RNA-seq analysis**, along with the analytical methods required for their project. Training in experimental planning and execution is provided, as well as guidance on troubleshooting experiments. This role may involve extensive global team matrix interactions with colleagues from several different disciplines.

- Attend the “Bench to Bedside” Lecture Series to gain knowledge of the drug development process and clinical research
- Collect data and maintain records
- Shadow key functional roles for learning and development opportunities
- Assist with interpretation, reporting, and preparation of oral and written results of product research, in concert with senior discovery team members
- Review literature and related new technologies
- Take on leadership opportunities on specific internship program activities and/or group projects
- Prepare and present an abstract or poster at the organization-wide annual research symposium
- Complete other projects as assigned
### Qualifications we are looking for
- **Legal authorization:** You must be legally/permanently authorized to work in the US with no required sponsorship. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship for long-term employment and do not meet requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship. Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requirements must be communicated at the time of application.
- **Enrollment:** You must be currently enrolled in an accredited University or College program throughout the duration of the internship and must not be graduating before, during, or after the start or end of the internship program. Undergraduate students with completion of a minimum of **four semesters** at program start or graduate students are eligible.
- **Academic standing:** A minimum cumulative GPA of **3.0** which is reflective of all college coursework. Students must be in good standing, working towards the completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree.
- **Field of study:** Some experience or a degree in **biology, cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology/immuno-oncology, computational biology, or a similar area of study** is required. Graduate students must be pursuing a **master’s or a Ph. D degree**.
- **Skills and characteristics:** You should be self-motivated, a future scientist leader passionate about drug development and clinical research. Proven leadership or participation with campus programs and service programs is desired. You must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills, and possess leadership skills to participate and contribute to internship program initiatives and events. Fluent in written and spoken English, with great interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills are essential. You should be able to lead peers, project teams, and present to project and senior leadership teams. Being enthusiastic, collaborative, and able to build relationships and work within global matrixed and cross-functional teams is important. The ability to work on and balance multiple project deliverables is needed. Working knowledge and/or experience using **Slack** and the **Microsoft suite** (including Excel, One. Note, Outlook, Power. Point, Share. Point, Teams, and Word) is required.
