Job Description
Role Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides patient-centered care under RN supervision, focusing on physical, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs. Responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, assisting with treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and documenting treatments accurately. The LPN also educates patients and families, collaborates with healthcare team members, and participates in staff meetings, training, and continuing education. They may serve as a preceptor for new staff and float between multiple sites as needed.
Key Duties
Assess and manage patient needs following physician orders using the nursing process
Perform routine nursing procedures, including medication administration and port access
Coordinate care with RN and team members, updating on patient condition changes
Educate patients and caregivers to promote self-care and understanding
Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to regulatory guidelines
Participate in staff education, orientation, and ongoing professional development
Qualifications & Skills:
High School Diploma or GED, with LPN licensure and BLS certification required
Preferred healthcare experience, especially in oncology or outpatient settings
Strong assessment, clinical, organizational, and communication skills
Proficient in computer use and possess reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
Problem-solving abilities, leadership qualities, and scheduling flexibility
Additional Requirements: Ability to work collaboratively, stay current with clinical knowledge, and comply with organizational policies.
