Job Summary:
Assists with dosimetric calculations, treatment planning, quality assurance and data input into system. Provides radiation in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Assists the department director in the day-to-day operations of the department. Acts as an expert clinician who demonstrates a high level of knowledge/expertise, and is a leader/resource to the healthcare team.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in radiation oncology or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Preferred
• Master's Degree: Preferred
• Five years' technical experience: Preferred
• Two years' leadership experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy (AART-T) and Certification of Therapeutic Radiology Technology (RTT): Required
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred
• ARRT-Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T): Required
• Therapeutic Radiologic Technology Certification (TRT): Required
Facility Specific License/Certifications:
• Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS): Required
Essential Functions:
• Schedules patients for treatment and operates linear accelerators and CT scanner. Delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy by checking prescription, diagnosis chart, and patient identification. Explains procedures to patient, means of communication during treatment, and basic treatment procedure. Delivers prescribed daily dose to patient, observing radiation safety measures for patient and personnel. Manages the daily patient charges for radiation therapy patients. Supervises and performs planning and production of immobilization devices.
• Prepares room and equipment for patient according to prescription or simulation regarding immobilization devices, etc., transfers patient to treatment couch, giving attention to the special needs of the patient.
• Observes patients for unusual reactions and for signs and symptoms of developing complications during treatment, reporting reactions and complications to supervisor and department physician
• Maintains a variety of records, including, records of daily treatment; maintains and regularly reviews patient charts to eliminate errors and to ensure that blood counts and special reports are properly recorded.
• Provides clinical supervision and evaluates students' practical ability to perform procedures.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
