Cytotechnologist - Full Time - Days

The Cytologist is responsible for preparing, screening, and evaluating non-gynecologic cytology specimens such as body fluids and fine needle aspirations to detect abnormalities, infections, and malignancies. They collaborate closely with pathologists to provide accurate diagnostic information that guides patient care.

Key duties include performing quality assurance, specimen accessioning, staining, and slide maintenance, as well as assisting with collection procedures and rapid on-site evaluations. They must stay current with industry standards through ongoing education and participate in quality improvement programs, ensuring compliance with CAP, CLIA, and institutional regulations.

The role requires a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent, successful completion of an approved cytology training program, and ASCP certification. While no experience is required, three years of non-gynecologic cytology experience, familiarity with FNA procedures, and molecular techniques are preferred. Essential skills include attention to detail, strong communication, and knowledge of cellular morphology, laboratory information systems, and digital cytology imaging.

The Cytologist must maintain high-quality standards, foster positive relationships with colleagues and clients, and effectively communicate urgent findings. Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent is mandatory.
