Job Description
Vice President, People & Culture
New York City Hybrid
We are partnering with a highly respected, internationally recognized organization at the intersection of
art, culture and creativity to identify an exceptional Vice President, People & Culture to lead and elevate its global people function.
This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned People leader to step into a highly visible executive role with the mandate to both
shape the future of the People & Culture function and influence the broader direction of the organization.
Reporting to the COO and serving as a member of that team, the VP, People & Culture
will inherit an established People organization while being empowered to assess what exists today, identify opportunities for improvement, and build a more strategic, sophisticated and forward-looking function.
The mandate is broad and meaningful. This leader will oversee the full employee lifecycle while helping create greater organizational clarity, stronger communication, thoughtful employee experiences and a cohesive, high-performing culture.
The Opportunity
The VP, People & Culture will serve as both a strategic advisor to senior leadership and an engaged, hands-on leader of the People function.
Responsibilities will include:
• Shape and execute a global People & Culture strategy aligned with the organization's evolving business priorities.
• Evaluate existing HR processes, policies, organizational structure, talent and capabilities, identifying opportunities to modernize and strengthen the function.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to executive leadership on organizational, talent and people-related matters.
• Lead and develop the existing People team, creating a culture of accountability, operational excellence and exceptional service.
• Own talent acquisition strategy and ensure the organization continues to attract exceptional talent, including for specialized and senior-level positions.
• Lead talent management, development, onboarding, performance management and leadership-development initiatives.
• Help define and actively shape a transparent, communicative and high-performance culture while respecting the organization's unique heritage.
• Lead employee relations, compliance and employment-related risk management.
• Oversee compensation and benefits administration, HR operations, HRIS optimization and the global personnel budget.
• Use people data, metrics and technology to build a more sophisticated and proactive People function.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for a sophisticated, highly credible People executive who brings both
strategic range and operational depth. The successful candidate will likely have
15+ years of progressive Human Resources/People leadership experience, including significant experience leading teams and advising senior executives.
You may currently be a Vice President, Head of People, Executive Director or highly seasoned Senior Director ready to step into broader enterprise leadership and full functional ownership.
Most importantly, you have demonstrated the ability to enter an organization during a period of evolution, understand its culture and business, determine what needs to change—and then actually make that change happen.
Ideal experience includes:
• Broad leadership experience spanning talent management, talent acquisition, organizational development, culture, employee relations, total rewards and HR operations.
• Experience transforming or elevating a People/HR function from primarily operational to increasingly strategic.
• A track record of advising CEOs, executive teams and senior business leaders.
• Experience leading organizations through growth, change, transformation or organizational complexity.
• Strong knowledge of employment practices, employee relations and compliance.
• Experience leveraging HR technology, data and analytics to improve decision-making and organizational effectiveness.
• International or global HR exposure is strongly preferred.
• Exceptional emotional intelligence, judgment and communication skills.
This role is particularly well suited to a leader who is comfortable moving between the boardroom and the details—someone who can help shape enterprise strategy in one conversation and roll up their sleeves to solve a difficult organizational or people challenge in the next.
Experience within the art world is not required. Genuine curiosity about and appreciation for
art, culture, design, creativity or other purpose-driven environments will be highly valued. This is an opportunity to put your fingerprints on a People function and culture at an organization with a remarkable history, global presence and highly distinctive mission.
