Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy- Assistant Nurse Manager

Job Description

The UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty & Research Hospital’s Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy (SCTCT) Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) partners with the SCTCT nurse manager to provide patient care and nursing services oversight for an inpatient 24-bed protected environment unit. The SCTCT ANM focuses on promoting quality, evidence-based care and patient satisfaction in a fiscally responsive manner. The SCTCT ANM serves as a leadership support for night shift and will work two (2)12-hour shifts as a charge RN, and two (2) 8-hour shifts in an administrative capacity supporting unit operations and strategic planning. The ANM will supervise, direct, coach and mentor staff under the supervision of the nurse manager.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervises and evaluates the provision of patient care by other personnel assigned to the unit.
• Performs daily patient rounds and completes random chart audits.
• Assists leadership in conducting accreditation readiness audits to assess compliance with standards.
• Manages staff to meet established productivity targets as appropriate.
• Creates staffing/nursing assignments to meet patient-specific needs on a shift-by-shift basis.
• Coordinates staffing with central staffing office/house supervisor. Makes ongoing changes to staffing as determined by fluctuations in census and patient acuity to ensure safe delivery of care.
• Coordinates self-scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage for unit needs. Maintains daily attendance records, monitoring for trends that require intervention (i.e., late clock-ins, incremental overtime, missed punches, etc.).
• Cultivates staff professional growth by providing equal opportunities for participation in unit-based activities, patient care/unit decisions, hospital committees, and/or continuing education.
• Provides timely, confidential coaching and/or counseling of nursing personnel as appropriate and follows up with accurate reports to unit manager.
• Assures first-person reporting of safety events via the event reporting system.. Ensures all staff are competent in entering event reports and serves as a resource when necessary. Investigates event facts and reports. Facilitates timely follow-up by the unit manager and notifies the unit nurse manager/risk manager high-risk situations immediately.
• Works with unit manager, care management/coordination, physicians, nurse navigators, and other disciplines to streamline discharge of patients and achieve goals for discharge efficiency.
• Assumes delegated responsibility for inventory control of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and effective patient care. Solicits staff input regarding equipment and supply needs for the unit.
• Actively participates on hospital work groups.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.

License And Certification

• RN Registered Nurse State Licensure Required
• BLS Basic Life Support Required
• BMTCN Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse Preferred

Experience

• At least three (3) years of RN experience required
• At least one (1) year of acute care inpatient RN experience required; two (2) years of acute care inpatient oncology experience highly preferred. .
• One (1) year in a charge nurse role preferred.

Required Skills

Three (3) years of RN experience.~One (1) year of acute care setting experience as an RN.~One (1) year in a charge nurse role, preferred.

Benefits Overview

• Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
• Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
• Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
