Section Chief of Hematology-Oncology

The VA Providence Healthcare System is seeking a dedicated Physician specializing in Hematology/Oncology. This role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and managing hematology/oncology patients, including inpatient admissions and various therapeutic procedures. Practice Info

• Privileges may be exercised at the VA Providence Healthcare Systems including the CBOCs only after ensuring sufficient staff and appropriate equipment is in the area.

• Telemedicine and E-Consult is a modality available to all Credentialed & Privileged LIP.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, provide consultation and medically manage and treat hematology/oncology patients.

• Admit to inpatient or appropriate level of care.

• Perform history and physical examinations.

• Ordering and Preliminary interpretation of EKG and Imaging and Laboratory Studies.

• Palliative Care Consultation.

• Select, initiate and administer chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of cancer via all therapeutic routes.

• Assessment of tumor imaging by CT, MR, PET scanning and nuclear imaging techniques.

• Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.

Compensation

• Possible $1,100 per year CME reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

• Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

• Must pass pre-employment physical examination.

• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA-approved school.

• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

• Completion of residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

• Preferred Experience: Hematology and Medical Oncology Privileges.

• Successful completion of an accredited fellowship in hematology/Oncology (screen out).

• Board certification, or board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology (screen out).
