Job Description
Role Overview
This position involves diagnosing diseases through laboratory techniques on Fine Needle Aspirations and Non-Gynecological specimens. The cytopathologist examines tissue sections, smears, and Thin Prep cytospins, providing diagnostic reports and consulting with physicians on test interpretation and treatment options.
Key Responsibilities
• Microscopic evaluation of specimens to identify etiology, morphology, and clinical significance.
• Preparation and analysis of slides, including photomicrography of diagnostic features.
• Providing detailed pathology reports and clinical consultation.
• Participating in proficiency testing, quality assurance, and departmental meetings.
• Training and educating laboratory staff, students, and residents.
• Engaging in professional development through conferences and seminars.
• Maintaining compliance with all relevant regulatory standards and confidentiality protocols.
• Potentially serving as an expert witness in legal cases.
Qualifications & Skills
• Completion of an accredited residency in anatomic and/or clinical pathology.
• Board certification in Cytopathology and certification in anatomic pathology.
• Valid medical license and appropriate privileges.
• Ability to interpret complex specimens, with strong attention to detail and color discrimination.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Work Environment
The role requires physical ability to handle specimens, work in a well-lit, temperature-controlled setting, and manage occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. The workspace may be small and occasionally noisy, with exposure to low risks of blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, and radiation.
