The Greater Manchester Region is home to approximately 2,500 employees and includes Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital, serving a community of 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As an Oncology Nurse Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting patients by addressing their basic needs and daily living activities under the guidance of registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical nurses (LPNs). You will facilitate communication with patients, families, and other healthcare team members, while maintaining a safe and clean environment and accurate medical records.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of a certified nursing assistant program is preferred but not mandatory.
• Active Certified Nurse Assistant certification upon hire.
• Completion of classroom education on Nurse Aide competencies required, with verification during the introductory orientation period.
• Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within the introductory orientation period.
COMPETENCIES:
• Effective communication skills, especially in English.
• Basic computer proficiency is necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide essential patient care that addresses physical and psychosocial needs.
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Monitor and communicate any changes in patient status to the RN or LPN promptly.
• Support the documentation of patient data and care activities.
• Prioritize patient safety and positive outcomes in all care activities.
• Demonstrate flexibility and organization in stressful situations.
• Maintain clear communication with team members.
• Transport patients safely between departments as needed.
• Perform various nursing duties as trained, including removal of saline locks and Foley catheters, taking vital signs, and assisting with telemetry and EKG procedures.
