Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct a wide variety of nuclear medicine imaging procedures, including cardiac, skeletal, renal, hepatobiliary, pulmonary, endocrine, and infection/inflammation studies, following physician instructions and departmental guidelines.
• Safely and accurately prepare, handle, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with radiation safety protocols and all regulatory standards.
• Ensure patient identification, gather relevant medical history, explain procedures, and provide empathetic care to guarantee patient comfort and safety during examinations.
• Accurately position patients, optimize imaging parameters, and capture high-quality images using gamma cameras and other nuclear medicine technology.
• Analyze and evaluate images for quality and completeness, promptly communicating critical findings to radiologists and referring physicians.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of procedures, dosages, patient details, and imaging parameters in electronic health records and imaging systems.
• Perform routine quality control and maintenance checks on nuclear medicine equipment, promptly reporting any malfunctions and coordinating necessary service.
• Adhere to radiation safety best practices, including personal dosimetry monitoring and the appropriate use of shielding and protective gear while managing the storage and disposal of radioactive materials according to NRC and state regulations.
• Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, medical physicists, and other healthcare team members to enhance patient care, refine study protocols, and assist in accurate diagnoses and treatment planning.
• Support the development of new technicians, students, or cross-trained staff by sharing your knowledge, best practices, and fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
• Contribute to departmental efficiency by managing exam priorities, scheduling, and helping maintain a safe, organized work environment.
• Engage in ongoing education, competency evaluations, and departmental projects to stay updated on advancements in nuclear medicine technology and regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills:
• Experience operating nuclear medicine gamma cameras and SPECT/CT systems.
• Knowledge of radiopharmaceutical preparation, handling, and administration techniques.
• Proficient in injection and IV access methodologies.
• Understanding of radiation safety and ALARA principles.
• Skilled in patient positioning and immobilization techniques for nuclear medicine procedures.
• Image acquisition, processing, and quality control expertise.
• Familiar with PACS and RIS/HIS systems.
• Competency in dosimetry calculations and documentation.
• Ability to perform ECG monitoring for selected procedures.
• Knowledgeable in infection control and universal precautions.
• Capable of clinical documentation and proficient in using electronic health records.
• Basic skills in patient assessment and vital signs monitoring.
• Ability to troubleshoot nuclear medicine equipment effectively.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (Joint Commission, NRC, state regulations).
• Strong communication skills with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams.
