Job Description
• Serve as a primary assistant to physicians and nurses in radiation oncology.
• Prepare patients, examination rooms, supplies, and linens for appointments.
• Escort patients and obtain pertinent information as needed.
• Assist providers with examinations, minor office procedures, instrument handling, and procedure preparation.
• Perform intramuscular, subcutaneous, and nebulizer medications as ordered, for CMAs within certification scope.
• Conduct sterilization, autoclave procedures, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, and biohazardous-waste disposal.
• Maintain laboratory, test-result, patient-chart, requisition, and departmental documentation.
• Manage EPIC messages/in-baskets, faxes, testing orders, imaging discs, cancer conference documentation, provider charting, and scribing as requested.
• Assist with pharmacy callbacks, patient callbacks, refill faxes, order entry, ICD-10 coding in ARIA, consents, signatures, and document scanning.
• Answer telephones, take messages, maintain room and supply stock, coordinate hazardous-waste pickups, and support scheduling.
• Communicate barriers to patient care to providers, nursing staff, or management.
• Follow provider and nurse instructions without independent medical decision-making or evaluation/assessment activities.
Requirements
• High School diploma or GED and a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or Paramedic program required.
• Active Medical Assistant certification through AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, or NHA OR Paramedic License required.
• CPR or BLS certification required.
• Preferred one-year experience in a medical setting such as a doctor’s office, hospital or long-term nursing facility.
• Ability to perform duties within the scope of certification, training, and experience.
• Knowledge of Hyperspace, EPIC, and ARIA functions as used for patient documentation and care coordination.
• Ability to follow OSHA standards and bloodborne pathogen policies and procedures.
• Ability to perform CPR in patient emergent situations.
• Ability to work in Schaumburg or Lisle, Illinois.
