Hospice On-Call Nurse - LPN or RN
Kansas City, MO | $62,000 to $95,000 per year | Full-time, on-call
A hospice agency serving the eastern Kansas City metro is hiring a full-time On-Call Hospice Nurse (LPN or RN) on a 7 on, 7 off schedule. The role covers after-hours and weekend patient needs by phone and through visits to patients' homes and care facilities. The territory spans roughly a 30-mile radius across Jackson County and parts of Clay, Lafayette, Cass, Ray, and Johnson counties in Missouri.
Schedule
Full-time, 7 on and 7 off. During your on week, you'll cover Monday through Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM, then continuously from Friday at 5:00 PM through Monday at 8:00 AM. You may be dispatched anywhere within the service area.
Compensation
$62,000 to $95,000 per year, based on licensure and experience.
What You'll Do
During after-hours and weekend coverage, you will be the first point of contact for hospice patients and their families. You will take calls from patients and caregivers, assess their needs, and decide whether to resolve the issue by phone or with a visit. When a visit is needed, you will travel to the patient's home or care facility.
On visits, you will assess patients, manage pain and other symptoms, provide treatments, and teach caregivers how to care for their loved one. You will address the physical, emotional, and social needs of both the patient and family. You will coordinate care with the hospice interdisciplinary team, documenting each call and visit and handing off clearly to the daytime team.
Required Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program
• Active Missouri nursing license (LPN or RN), or a multistate Nurse Licensure Compact license
• 2+ years of hospice, palliative care, or end-of-life care experience
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Working knowledge of hospice care and the interdisciplinary team model
• Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance
• Ability to travel throughout the eastern Kansas City metro service area
Preferred Qualifications
• Active Kansas nursing license
• Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) or Certified Hospice and Palliative Licensed Nurse (CHPLN)
• Prior experience as an on-call or after-hours hospice nurse
• Home health or hospice visit experience
• Electronic medical record experience in a home-based care setting
