Summary:
The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing exceptional leadership and managing operations in a clinical setting, ensuring nursing care is safe and of high quality. Working in collaboration with the Nursing Department Director/Manager, the Clinical Supervisor plays a key role in delivering comprehensive care to patients and their families while supporting the interdisciplinary team. This role includes supervising nursing department associates and providing patient care as needed, all while modeling professionalism and excellence in service.
Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates comprehensive nursing knowledge and skills in accordance with the Patient Bill of Rights and relevant regulations.
• Conducts patient experience rounds to gather feedback and addresses service recovery promptly, aiding in the resolution of complaints.
• Identifies barriers to change and advocates for necessary resources to drive improvement.
• Creates patient assignments tailored to needs and staff competencies, ensuring completion of tasks.
• Collaborates with the Patient Flow Supervisor to enhance patient flow metrics, ensuring appropriate patient placements.
• Fosters teamwork and constructive conflict resolution, supporting both intra- and inter-disciplinary collaboration.
• Monitors and coaches staff to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
• Enforces infection control measures and ensures compliance.
• Promotes hourly rounding and effective patient communication techniques among associates.
• Serves as a clinical resource for associates facing complex clinical situations.
• Oversees fall risk and skin at risk programs, implementing prevention strategies.
• Facilitates effective pain management and coordinates communication with physicians regarding patient pain goals.
• Encourages associate participation in multi-disciplinary rounds.
• Implements National Patient Safety Goals and coaches staff for compliance.
• Reassesses effectiveness of comfort measures promptly and monitors staff adherence to standards.
• Mentors associates to make efficient decisions and resource usage while meeting productivity and competence expectations.
• Ensures compliance with guidelines for IV therapy and medication administration.
• Utilizes AIDET to create positive impressions and coaches associates in this approach.
• Maintains workplace safety and understands reporting procedures for hazards and injuries.
• Interprets monitored rhythms accurately, intervening as necessary.
• Assists with specialized procedures relevant to patient care.
• Collects, assesses, and documents patient data appropriately.
• Communicates critical patient information to care team members.
• Ensures timely execution of physician orders.
• Checks emergency equipment at the start of each shift.
• Responds to unit emergencies and coordinates Code Blue management.
• Conducts end-of-shift controlled substance counts, resolving discrepancies as needed.
• Delivers clear hand-off communication during patient transitions.
• Assists in developing schedules and determining staffing needs based on patient census and requirements.
• Participates in the recruitment and education of new associates, setting clear performance expectations.
• Initiates counseling as necessary and aids in the disciplinary process.
• Perform patient care duties as needed.
Requirements:
Education:
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred with national specialty certification.
Experience:
• Preferred 3 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to demonstrate necessary skills for age-appropriate care/service.
Certifications, Registrations, or Licenses:
• Current RN license in New Mexico.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• PALS/NRP as applicable, acquired within 6 months.
• TNCC if applicable, with a similar timeline to obtain.
• CPI or equivalent certification within six months for specific areas.
