Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist performs routine and specialized radiation treatments in accordance with physician-developed treatment plans. The therapist works independently, exercising sound clinical judgment and technical expertise to deliver safe, precise, and accurate radiation treatments in a timely manner.

The role requires strong patient assessment, monitoring, communication, and interpersonal skills to gain the confidence and cooperation of patients, families, and healthcare providers. The therapist must comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, safety standards, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform a variety of radiation therapy and simulation procedures for cancer patients according to established policies and procedures.
• Deliver radiation treatments accurately and safely according to the physician's treatment plan.
• Operate and maintain complex radiation therapy equipment, including documenting equipment readings and coordinating adjustments or repairs when necessary.
• Complete routine and priority assignments within established departmental time frames.
• Prepare for and assist physicians with various radiation therapy and simulation procedures.
• Educate patients about procedures in a clear, professional manner to reduce fear and anxiety.
• Provide support and guidance to students and new therapists by fostering a constructive learning environment.
• Perform other specialized procedures and assist with departmental orientation and training as needed.
Clerical & Documentation Responsibilities
• Answer phones and assist with general departmental clerical tasks.
• Update patient appointments and retrieve, enter, and revise information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Complete accurate documentation related to patients and procedures, including screening and written consent forms.
• Ensure accurate documentation of exam and procedure charges.
• Monitor inventory and order accessories and supplies to maintain appropriate stock levels.
Safety & Quality Responsibilities
• Follow radiation protection practices and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
• Clean and disinfect equipment after each procedure.
• Inspect and calibrate equipment as required to ensure proper operation.
• Document quality control (QC) results and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
