Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Assessment
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after apheresis procedures.
• Review physician orders, treatment plans, and laboratory results to determine patient readiness for treatment.
• Monitor vital signs and patient responses throughout procedures.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to adverse reactions and emergencies.
Apheresis Procedures
• Initiate, monitor, and discontinue apheresis treatments according to established protocols.
• Operate and troubleshoot apheresis equipment and related devices.
• Perform therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), red cell exchange, leukapheresis, platelet collection, and stem cell collection procedures as applicable.
• Ensure proper vascular access management, including central venous catheters and peripheral access.
Documentation & Compliance
• Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, AABB standards, FACT standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Collaboration & Communication
• Collaborate with physicians, transplant teams, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
• Educate patients and families regarding procedures, risks, benefits, and post-treatment care.
• Communicate changes in patient condition to the appropriate healthcare providers.
Infection Control & Safety
• Adhere to infection prevention and control practices.
• Ensure proper handling of blood products and biological specimens.
• Maintain equipment and supplies in accordance with organizational policies.
