Cross Country Nurses is seeking a travel nurse RN Hematology / Oncology Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

Job Summary:
The Medical Surgical Oncology Floor Registered Nurse (RN) position is located in Bridgeport, West Virginia. This role involves providing care for general medical-surgical patients, including post-operative and oncology patients, in a high-acuity hospital environment. The RN will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care during 12-hour shifts, contributing to patient recovery and safety.
Job Details:
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (day and night)
• Schedule: 36 hours per week, with shifts scheduled accordingly
• Required Qualifications: BLS certification through the American Heart Association, minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, valid RN license, and ability to work in the United States.
• Common diagnoses/types of patients: General MedSurg patients, post-operative procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendectomy, oncology patients with complications (neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections), patients with chest tubes including PleurX chest tubes, and occasional psychiatric patients requiring one-on-one sitters.
• Patient Ratios: Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred; ONC (Oncology Certified Nurse) or ONCC (Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) certification would be a plus.
• Medication & Equipment: RT (Respiratory Therapist) manages CPAP and BiPAP; nurses manage oxygen levels, monitor telemetry; Heparin drips titrated by RN; no cardiac drips.
• Telemetry: Phillips monitors with a central monitor tech; RNs need to be able to read and interpret strips.
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge nurse available 24/7; does not take patient assignment during day shift but does at night.
• Nurse Aides: 3 CNAs on day and night shifts; may assist with blood sugar monitoring.
• Orientation: Multiple shifts of orientation with a preceptor.
• Float & Staffing: RNs may float to other MedSurg/Telemetry units. Ratios are capped when floating to lower acuity units.
• Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs.
• Additional Notes: Phone and email implementation details provided; unit operates on EPIC charting system.
