Technical Lead - Healthcare IT

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Technical Lead to drive the technical execution, development velocity, and feature delivery of our flagship clinical scheduling optimization application, iOptimize. Operating in a 100% remote environment (with a preference for candidates on the US East Coast), you will mentor a small team of developers while keeping your own coding skills sharp. This role is balanced as 75% Hands-on Development and 25% Project & Team Leadership. You will own sprint delivery, guide other engineers, and manage technical roadmaps. You will remain deeply hands-on to write clean code, architect features, review pull requests and support our critical Python/MariaDB backend and Chrome Browser Extension. The extension serves as our vital integration layer, seamlessly overlaying intelligent scheduling workflows directly onto oncology EHR systems and associated Practice Management (PM) tools.

Core Responsibilities
• Write high-quality code within our Python backend and Chrome Extension architecture.
• Lead daily standups and own sprint planning to ensure on-time delivery.
• Mentor other developers through pair programming, code reviews, and technical guidance.
• Translate product roadmaps into clear, actionable technical tasks for the team.
• Maintain core integrations that overlay workflows onto EMR systems. Proficiency working with HL7 interfaces and FHIR APIs for data exchange.
• EHR Integration: Practical experience interfacing with oncology EHR platforms. Familiarity with ETL Tools like Mirth Connect a plus.
• Assist product implementation engineers with customer implementations.
• Help establish best practices for testing, documentation, and version control.

Qualifications
• Experience: 6–8 years of professional, hands-on software development experience.
• Leadership: Proven track record of guiding, mentoring, or leading junior engineers.
• Backend Stack: Strong proficiency in Python and relational databases, specifically MariaDB.
• Frontend/Browser Stack: Solid understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript and Chrome Browser Extension architecture.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Experience working with PaaS platforms (like Dokku) within an AWS environment.
• Healthcare IT (Preferred): Interfacing familiarity with EMR/EHRs like Flatiron OncoEMR or iKnowMed and Practice Management systems such as Athena IDX is a major plus.
• Location: Must work productively in a 100% remote setting, US East Coast preferred.
