Surgical Technologist II
Location: Houston Medical Center
Starting Pay Rate: $44.50 / Hour + (Based on experience)
Schedule: 6:30am - 5:00pm with a day off during the week. On-Call is a requirement.
Dean's Professional Services is actively seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist II to join a leading healthcare facility in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable in sterile technique, and experienced in assisting with a variety of surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and organize the operating room according to the surgical procedure and patient needs.
- Ensure all surgical instruments, implants, prostheses, medications, and supplies are properly prepared and available.
- Maintain a sterile field and apply sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team to ensure efficient workflow during operations.
- Perform accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments according to established policies and procedures.
- Assist with the proper handling, labeling, and transport of surgical specimens.
- Set up back tables and arrange surgical instruments and supplies based on the procedure and surgeon preference cards.
- Scrub, gown, and glove according to operating room protocols and recommended practices.
- Assist in the cleaning, inspection, and proper care of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Operate sterilization equipment and follow established sterilization and infection control standards.
- Support department efficiency by following procedures for processing sterile and contaminated instruments.
- Participate in continuing education and training to maintain clinical competency.
Qualifications
- Must have prior experience in cardiothoracic (not cardiovascular) and scrubbing cardiac bypass/pump cases.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist training program or military surgical training program (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or U.S. Public Health Service).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist with experience in two or more surgical specialties.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or certification through the National Center for Competency Testing.
- Knowledge of sterilization systems including steam, EO, and low-temperature sterilization methods.
- Experience with washer/disinfector operations, ultrasonic cleaners, and biological and chemical indicator testing.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining patient safety and quality standards.
