Job Description
The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking an outstanding candidate for a full-time faculty Surgical Pathologist position focused on Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary clinical service, teaching, and research, primarily in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology. • Nationally recognized consultation practice with more than 1,500 consultation cases annually, covering adult and pediatric medical liver disease, liver tumors, and neoplastic and non-neoplastic gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary disease.

• Completely digitized GI-Hepatobiliary Pathology workflow, with the option of digital or glass-slide review for nearly all clinical cases.
• An active liver transplant program, a large pediatric and adult inflammatory bowel disease program, and multidisciplinary collaboration across hepatology, gastroenterology, pediatric gastroenterology, and liver transplant services.
• A highly accomplished faculty group with extensive scholarly contributions in liver, gastrointestinal, and pancreaticobiliary pathology.
Key Responsibilities
• Participate in the surgical pathology service, including night and weekend call.
• Provide expert diagnostic service in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary pathology.
• Contribute to departmental teaching for medical students, house staff, and fellows.
• Participate in interdepartmental and multidisciplinary conferences.
• Engage in clinical and/or translational research and other scholarly activities.
Qualifications
• MD degree or equivalent.
• Valid California medical license or qualifications to obtain one.
• Completion of a GI and/or Hepatobiliary Pathology fellowship by the hiring date, or equivalent experience in GI and/or Hepatobiliary Pathology subspecialties.
• Candidates within the first two years of completing a Gastrointestinal-Hepatobiliary Pathology fellowship are preferred.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Anatomic Pathology by the time of appointment.
• Applicants must clearly list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
• Interest in covering another surgical pathology subspecialty may be accommodated but is not required.
• Demonstrated interest or success in scholarly activities, such as research presentations, book chapters or reviews, and original publications, is preferred.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are preferred.
Faculty Appointment and Compensation
The appointment may be made at the HS Clinical Instructor or Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the HS Clinical or Clinical X career tracks, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The minimum base salary range for this position is $106,000 - $405,900. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.
