Company Description Cues for Cancer was born from founder Darrell’s personal journey through testicular cancer at age 18, and the powerful support he received from family and theater communities nationwide. After successful surgeries, chemotherapy, and ultimately being declared cancer-free, Darrell transformed the #cuesforDarrell campaign into a mission-driven organization focused on supporting others facing cancer. Rooted in the performing arts, Cues for Cancer channels creativity, community, and advocacy to raise awareness and provide encouragement to those in treatment and recovery.

The organization reflects Darrell’s ongoing passion for theater, dance, and music, including performances in major productions and appearances at venues such as Carnegie Hall. Applicants joining Cues for Cancer will be part of a compassionate, arts-inspired community committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families affected by cancer.

Role Description this is a volunteer role The Social Media Manager Intern will help shape and grow Cues for Cancer’s online presence across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X (Twitter). Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and scheduling posts, crafting engaging copy and visual content, monitoring audience engagement, responding to comments and messages, and optimizing content for reach and impact. The intern will collaborate with the founder and team to support campaigns, promote events and performances, share stories of resilience, and align social media activity with the organization’s mission and brand voice.

This is an internship role with a hybrid work arrangement based in the Hampton Roads, Virginia Metropolitan Area, allowing for both in-person collaboration and some work from home.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess skills in Social Media Marketing and Social Media Optimization (SMO) to plan, execute, and improve multi-platform campaigns.
• Candidates should possess strong Communication and Writing skills to create clear, compelling, and mission-aligned content.
• Candidates should possess Content Strategy skills to develop calendars, align posts with organizational goals, and support brand consistency.
• Candidates should be familiar with major social platforms, basic analytics tools, and current social media trends.
• Candidates should demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and sensitivity when engaging with topics related to health, cancer, and personal stories.
• Candidates should be organized, able to manage deadlines, and comfortable working in a hybrid environment in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.
• Experience or interest in nonprofit work, performing arts, or health advocacy is beneficial.
• Relevant coursework, certifications, or prior internship experience in marketing, communications, media, or related fields is a plus.
