Senior Writer and Editor, Medical Content-REMOTE

This fully remote position offers you the opportunity to develop, write, and edit medical and scientific news that educates the public, empowers patients and caregivers, and supports healthcare professionals.

As a Senior Writer and Editor, you'll lead development of complex, high-priority content initiatives, identify emerging trends, and translate complex medical information into clear, actionable content. You'll exercise independent judgment, advise leadership on content opportunities, and serve as a trusted resource on medical journalism and health content creation.

### What You'll Do

- Lead strategic identification of emerging, time-sensitive oncology topics and evaluate their relevance for integration into news and cancer.org content (35% of time)

- Write, edit, and refine cancer news and information to engage public audiences with clarity, accuracy, and relevance (35%)

- Develop innovative content and storytelling approaches that strengthen ACS visibility and engage audiences (10%)

- Conduct interviews with clinicians, researchers, and other subject matter experts (10%)

- Collaborate with medical editors, SEO team and editorial staff to shape editorial strategy, maintain consistent style, address content gaps, and align with user search behavior (10%)

### What We're Looking For

**Education and Experience**

- Minimum Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or related field

- Preferred: Master's or Doctorate degree

- Medical Writer Certified (or equivalent) preferred

- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in medical journalism, health communications, medical writing, or related field

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**

- Demonstrated expertise in reporting, writing, and editing medical and scientific content

- Ability to independently identify emerging trends, evaluate scientific developments, and recommend high-impact content

- Advanced skill in evaluating scientific literature and clinical evidence for public audiences

- Exceptional storytelling skills across multiple formats

- Editorial judgment balancing medical accuracy, user needs, and digital best practices

- Knowledge of health literacy best practices

- Proficiency with Windows, Office, and web content management systems (preferably AEM)

- Familiarity with SEO, user experience, accessibility, basic HTML, and web development concepts

- Experience with project management software (preferably Monday.com)

- Strong collaboration, consultation, and relationship-building skills

- Excellent attention to detail and time management

### Work Environment and Travel

This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Periodic travel may be required for team meetings, partner collaboration, and conferences.

Work is performed in a typical office environment with no significant physical effort or exposure to risk.

### Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary range is $95,000 to $105,000, with final offer based on experience, skills, and location. ACS offers generous paid time off, medical, dental, and retirement benefits, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities.
