We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Specialist Criticality & Radiation Safety
to join our international Design Authority Organisation in Gronau. This is a unique opportunity to influence nuclear safety across the Urenco Group and play a key role in shaping the standards, practices and technologies that support our facilities today and in the future.
Your Impact
As the recognised technical authority for Criticality Safety and Radiation Protection across the Urenco Group, you will provide expert leadership on some of the most complex and strategically important safety challenges within the business.
You will develop and maintain group-wide standards, methodologies and technical capabilities, ensuring that evolving regulations, industry developments and best practices are translated into effective and consistent implementation across our international operations.
Working closely with Engineering & Design Authority teams and senior stakeholders, you will provide independent technical assessments and guidance on high-risk, complex and non-standard issues. Your expertise will directly influence safety performance, licensing activities, operational excellence and long-term investment decisions.
You will also play a key role in connecting our international community of specialists, driving knowledge sharing, collaboration and technical excellence across all Urenco sites.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain group-wide standards, guidance and technical expertise in Criticality Safety and Radiation Protection.
- Act as the recognised technical authority and strategic advisor for complex and high-risk nuclear safety challenges.
- Support cross-site collaboration and standardisation through international expert networks, including the Nuclear Criticality Safety Forum (NCSF).
- Coordinate, perform and review criticality, dosimetry and safety assessments supporting design, project and operational activities.
- Participate in technical reviews, HAZOP studies and design assessments to ensure compliance with nuclear safety principles throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Translate emerging regulatory requirements, industry developments and best practices into practical group-wide standards and guidance.
- Provide expert support to multidisciplinary projects from concept development through operation and decommissioning.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Process Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- At least five years of experience in Criticality Safety, Nuclear Safety and/or Radiation Protection within the nuclear industry.
- Experience with advanced radiation and particle transport modelling tools such as MCNP, MONK and/or SCALE.
- Strong understanding of nuclear physics, criticality safety, radiation protection and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience conducting complex safety assessments and technical reviews within multidisciplinary environments.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to provide clear technical leadership in an international organisation.
