Senior Postdoctoral Fellow – Computational Biology & Agentic AI

We are a research laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai focused on understanding and characterizing emerging viruses more deeply. How they behave, how they interact with their hosts, and what biological features shape their ability to spread, persist, and cause disease.

About the role





As our research programs continue to grow, so does our team. We are looking for a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow to help lead and shape our computational biology capabilities across multiple programs.





This role will work closely with experimental scientists across virology, genomics, immunology, and computational biology, helping connect complex biological data with scientific questions, experimental design, and actionable insights.





A major part of the position will involve helping define and develop the Lab’s approach to
agentic AI for biological research, while integrating genomics, multi-omics, structural biology, immunology, and predictive modeling across different research programs.





The fellow will also play an important leadership role within the Lab’s computational efforts, helping mentor team members, establish shared analytical standards, and build reproducible approaches that can be used across projects.





Key responsibilities


- Lead and coordinate computational work across multiple research programs.
- Partner with experimental scientists to translate biological questions into computational strategies and testable hypotheses.
- Help develop and evaluate agentic-AI systems for biological research.
- Integrate genomic, multi-omic, structural, immunological, and predictive data to support scientific discovery.
- Mentor and support computational team members.
- Establish reproducible analytical workflows, documentation, and quality standards.
- Contribute to study design, interpretation, publications, presentations, and program milestones.










Qualifications


- PhD or equivalent degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, quantitative biology, computer science, biomedical engineering, virology/genomics, or a related field.
- Strong record of computational research and scientific productivity appropriate for a senior postdoctoral appointment.
- Experience leading projects and mentoring or supervising computational scientists, analysts, trainees, or software contributors.
- Advanced Python proficiency and working knowledge of R.
- Strong foundation in statistics, experimental design, high-dimensional biological data analysis, and biological interpretation.
- Experience with Linux/Unix, HPC or cloud computing, workflow management, version control, automated testing, and containerization.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Substantial expertise in one or more relevant areas, such as single-cell or spatial analysis, multi-omics integration, machine learning, viral genomics, phylogenetics, pathogen discovery, immunology, vaccinology, or host–pathogen interactions.
