Merck & Co., Inc. invites dynamic, entrepreneurial individuals to join its Oncology team as an Oncology Sales Specialist. The role focuses on providing clinical and educational information about our leading immunotherapy product, supporting healthcare providers and systems, and driving market penetration in the Oregon territory.
Territory & Travel
• Field‑based sales position covering the Oregon territory.
• Candidate must reside within the territory.
• Travel requirements: approximately 25% of the time, with variations based on candidate location within the geography.
General Responsibilities
• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of product value, positioning, and differentiation in discussions with healthcare professionals, seeking additional information when needed.
• Act as primary point of contact for customers, meeting key staff to understand practice structure, business model, and key influencers.
• Possess thorough knowledge of cancer staging, treatment options, dosing schedules, and the impact of clinical trials across multiple tumor types.
• Analyze and identify trends within a complex buying environment, including distribution channels, oncology GPOs, wholesalers and specialty pharmacies.
• Develop short‑ and long‑term account plans with stakeholders, collaborating with the Customer Team Leader and other internal partners to execute the plan.
• Influence beyond specific geography by asking strategic, insightful questions and leveraging customer insights to position oncology brands.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Key Account Manager, Nurse Educator, Field Reimbursement Associate, Medicare Account Executive, etc.) to ensure a consistent customer experience.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree with 6‑8 years of sales experience OR high school diploma with at least 10 years of equivalent experience.
• Professional sales experience, healthcare/scientific field experience, marketing experience, or military experience.
• Minimum 2 years of oncology field sales experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
• Capability to travel as required by the role.
Preferred Experience and Skills
• Documented history of strong performance in a sales/marketing or oncology clinical role.
• Clinical oncology experience across multiple solid tumors (women’s cancer – breast, ovarian, and cervical).
• Provider for sales representatives with 0‑2 years of oncology field experience will be hired at the S2 level; 2+ years at the S3 level.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range for this role is $156,900.00 – $247,000.00. An employee may be eligible for annual bonuses and long‑term incentives. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement (401(k)), paid holidays, vacation, and additional care days.
