Summary

The faculty member will develop and maintain an active research program. The faculty member will support his/her research primarily through extramural grants and publish original research reports in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The faculty member will recruit and appropriately mentor research personnel within his/her research program. The faculty member will actively and collegially participate in the CCSG programs and the Moffitt Research Institute activities.The Independent Scientist Pathway is intended for tenure-track individuals who dedicate most of their effort to independent research. A portion of their effort is dedicated to educating future investigators, by teaching graduate students and medical students, and supervising postdoctoral fellows. These individuals will have their primary appointment in a Basic Science or Population Science department. They may have a secondary appointment in a Clinical Science department.

Senior Member (Independent Scientist Pathway) – Microbiome, Cancer & Immuno-Oncology Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute is recruiting an exceptional senior investigator to join our faculty as a Senior Member on the Independent Scientist Pathway (tenure-track), with an opportunity as Senior Advisor to the Center Director. We are seeking a nationally and internationally recognized scientist with renowned expertise in investigating the intersections of the microbiome, cancer, and anti-tumor immunity, with a demonstrated commitment to translating discovery into the clinic, and a clear record of innovation and entrepreneurship. Position Highlights:

• Faculty Rank: Senior Member, Independent Scientist Pathway (tenure-track).
• Primary Academic Home: Department of Immunology, Division of Discovery Science.
• Cancer Center Program: Immuno-Oncology (IO) Program, with rich scientific exchange, pilot funding, and team-science opportunities.
• Translational Collaboration: Encouraged to build strong partnerships with clinical colleagues; a secondary appointment aligned with colorectal cancer interests may be pursued.
• Training & Mentorship: Opportunities to mentor trainees and contribute to graduate education through affiliated programs. Ideal Candidate:
• PhD, MD, or equivalent terminal degree with a sustained record of academic excellence.
• Renowned expertise in microbiome-driven mechanisms in cancer and/or immuno-oncology, with a strong emphasis on clinical translation.
• Evidence of a top-tier, productive, and externally visible research program with a clear trajectory for continued national and international impact.
• Demonstrated ability to compete successfully for peer-reviewed extramural funding (e.g., NCI-recognized mechanisms such as R01/R01-equivalent).
• Commitment to team science and a collaborative approach that advances cross-disciplinary discovery and translation.
• Track record of mentorship and institutional/extramural service (e.g., committees, editorial boards, study sections), with a willingness to expand service commensurate with rank.
• Experience or strong interest in innovation and entrepreneurship, including partnerships that accelerate discovery-to-impact. Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and sustain a top-tier, innovative research program at the intersections of the microbiome, cancer biology, and anti-tumor immunity.
• Drive translation of discoveries into the clinic through close collaboration with clinical and translational colleagues.
• Secure and maintain extramural funding and serve as Principal Investigator on peer-reviewed grants.
• Participate actively in Immunology and IO Program scientific forums, including presenting work-in-progress and contributing to constructive grant and project review.
• Provide scientific leadership as Director of Microbiome Research, including building partnerships and enabling institutional capabilities that accelerate microbiome-focused discovery and translation.
• Mentor trainees and contribute to education and career development across the institution and affiliated programs.
• Contribute to institutional, extramural, and community service consistent with senior faculty expectations. Compensation & Faculty Support:

Salary Range

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
