Job Description
TargetCancer Foundation (TCF) is a patient-founded non-profit organization based in Cambridge, MA that is dedicated to rare cancer research and patient support. TCF directly supports initiatives at the forefront of rare cancer treatment by driving innovative research, developing patient- centric clinical studies, and by supporting patients and raising awareness for rare cancers publicly. TCF is a leading national rare cancer organization that is poised for significant growth, and this position will play a key role in that expansion.
The Senior Manager of Development and Community Engagement is an integral member of the TCF team who advances the mission and impact of the organization by engaging supporters and building community for patients and families. The Senior Manager is responsible for managing the organization’s key annual events, with an emphasis on community engagement and fundraising, while also leading projects and development efforts that support rare cancer research, patients and awareness.
This position requires strong writing, strategic, organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in managing multiple projects and demands. The position also requires a willingness to work independently and remotely, as well as collaboratively with a committed team of staff, Board, volunteers, community members, patients and families. The Senior Manager will report to the President, and work collaboratively with TCF communications, research, and other teams.
Position Responsibilities:
Development:
• Lead development planning, including donor strategy, stewardship, and outreach activities.
• Partner with the CEO on the development and submission of funding proposals.
• Collaborate with other TCF staff to manage the donation acknowledgment process for all donors, including regular audits of both printed and electronic donation acknowledgement communications across all platforms.
• Serve as staff liaison to Board Development Committee.
Events:
• Partner with TCF’s President to design and execute all aspects of fundraising events, including A Night to Strike Out Rare Cancer at Fenway Park, and the TargetCancer Foundation Gala. Lead site logistics, management and contracting, vendor oversight, registration, and on site management of all staff and volunteers.
• Partner with TCF Research team to manage event logistics for the annual Think Tank on Advancing Precision Medicine in Rare Cancers scientific meeting.
• Manage outside event-specific fundraising platforms, including implementation, contract management, and platform landscape analysis.
Community Engagement:
• Act as Team Manager for TCF’s Boston Marathon Team. Lead application, outreach, recruitment, selection and management for the TCF team; support and manage the team in their fundraising and training; serve as liaison to Boston Athletic Association; and foster the Team TCF alumni program.
• Assist in developing and executing other community engagement opportunities including awareness days and community fundraising events.
• Lead volunteer engagement and intern management, including management of volunteers during events.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 4 years of related fundraising, events and community engagement experience, with a record of success in managing and executing complex events.
• Strong writing, communication and organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders including patients, community members, scientific and industry partners
• Experience or interest in cancer research and/or public health strongly preferred
• Knowledge and experience in working with Bloomerang CRM, as well as G-Suite and other team-based online platforms
Employment Type:
Full-time (Flexible or remote work options available). May require occasional travel and weekend hours. This position includes options to utilize health and retirement benefits.
