Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse - Nurse Navigator with extensive oncology experience to support patients within a Radiation Treatment Center environment. The Nurse Navigator will provide patient education, symptom management, clinical assessments, and coordination of care for primarily cancer patients. This role requires strong clinical expertise in oncology nursing, IV therapy, radiation therapy support, and emergency symptom management.
Candidates must possess an active DC RN License at the time of submission. Experience in nurse navigation or nurse coordination is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care and support for oncology patients receiving radiation therapy treatment
Conduct patient assessments and monitor for signs and symptoms requiring clinical intervention
Deliver patient education related to treatment plans, symptom management, skincare, and wound care
Coordinate care with attending physicians, residents, emergency services, and interdisciplinary teams as needed
Perform telephone triage and respond to patient inquiries regarding symptoms and treatment concerns
Prepare and review patient charts and complete required documentation
Assist with disability forms, pharmacy coordination, and related office duties
Start and maintain IVs for adult patients
Provide care and management of ports and central/implanted lines
Administer and monitor IV therapy and infusions
Follow radiation safety precautions and support external radiation therapy procedures
Recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies including:
Acute Tumor Lysis Syndrome (ATLS)
Anaphylaxis
Sepsis
Spinal Cord Compression
Manage patient symptoms and conditions including:
Altered mental status
Dysphagia
Edema
Maintain accurate charting and documentation using Cerner EMR
Adhere to infection prevention and safety protocols including neutropenic precautions and tracheostomy care/management
Required Qualifications
Active DC Registered Nurse (RN) License required at the time of submission
Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required
Extensive oncology nursing experience required
Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment required
Experience with radiation oncology patient care
Experience starting and maintaining IVs in adult patients
Proficiency in:
Care and management of ports
Wound care
Radiation safety precautions
Symptom management
Telephone triage
Experience using Cerner EMR
Flu vaccination required per facility policy
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Nurse Navigator or Nurse Coordinator experience preferred
Experience in Radiation Oncology preferred
