It’s More Than a Career, It’s a Mission. Join Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), a subsidiary of Mc. Kesson, as a Research Treatment Nurse for the Drug Development Unit. This role is based in Denver, CO (1800 Williams St. Suite 300 (J004)) and focuses on treating and managing patients enrolled on clinical trials, advancing oncology treatments, and improving outcomes for patients living with cancer.

You will closely follow study patient(s) throughout the treatment course to ensure protocol compliance. Day-to-day duties include administering chemotherapy as ordered by physicians and reading and interpreting EKGs. You are expected to assess patients for side effects of treatment and symptoms related to disease or disease progression, evaluate lab data and communicate abnormal findings to the investigator and oncologist, and assess and document patient compliance with medications and return visits. Communication with pharmacy staff to provide timely and accurate study drug distribution is part of the role, as is maintaining a current medication list and protocol-specific records.

Timely documentation and data flow are essential: you will provide the data team with completed follow-up forms, medical records, lab data and other source documents in a timely manner, document and report adverse events, and perform telephone triage. You will also assess the patients' EMR to ensure that all required data has been entered prior to scheduled appointments, educate and orient ancillary staff in study-specific procedures, perform patient counseling and referrals to appropriate support services, and monitor schedules daily for appropriate treatment distribution and additional patient visits.

You should have for this position: An Associate Degree; preferably a Bachelor’s Degree, and current licensure in the state of Colorado as a Registered Nurse. One year of acute care nursing experience is required. At least one year of oncology experience is preferred, and at least one year of experience in a research setting is preferred. Current BLS certification is required. Current ACLS certification can be completed within nine months of start date. An ONS Chemotherapy Provider card can be completed within nine months of start date. Research Certification (ACRP or CCRP) is preferred.

Relevant knowledge and skills include medical and research terminology, knowledge of FDA Code of Federal Regulations and GCP, familiarity with the clinical research processes, and knowledge of Phase I protocol. You must communicate all protocol-related issues/problems to the investigator and collaborate across clinical, pharmacy, and data teams.
