Job Description
Build the science that shapes the future of human health.
Join a place where ambitious science thrives
Human Technopole (Milan) is a rapidly expanding life science institute where international researchers and cutting-edge technologies converge to accelerate biomedical discovery. Our mission is to transform bold scientific ideas into advances that improve human health.
The Sottoriva Lab ( at Human Technopole combines computational and experimental approaches to investigate cancer genomics and tumour evolution, with the goal of understanding disease progression and mechanisms of drug resistance. The lab integrates spatial and longitudinal patient-derived data with evolutionary theory and machine learning to study cancer biology. Research activities are supported by advanced bioinformatics, genomics, single-cell and spatial profiling infrastructures, as well as state-of-the-art high-performance computing and data storage facilities.
The successful candidates will report directly to the Group Leader, Prof Andrea Sottoriva, who is also the Head of the Computational Biology Research Centre.
As a maternity cover, we are looking for a motivated Bioinformatician to analyse and help with the interpretation of novel datasets from colon cancer patients we have generated in our lab. The objective is to measure and predict evolutionary forces using a combination of single-cell multiomic data and longitudinal circulating tumour DNA profiling, and correlate evolutionary measurements with clinical information to understand why and how tumour progression and treatment resistance occur.
Analyse and interpret data in light of tumour evolution, using and developing state-of-the-art methodologies and technologies.
Integrate data generated in the lab with existing datasets.
Help with the design of new methods and approaches, based on evolutionary theory and/or machine learning, to measure evolution from data.
Think independently, providing scientific insight and drive projects forward and explore new avenues of research.
Closely follow technological developments that could benefit the lab.
Aid in the sharing of data and the reproducibility of bioinformatics analyses.
Interact within the Computational Biology Research Centre with other computational researchers, technicians and experimental core posts for data generation and analysis, as well as across HT with other genomics and bioinformatics posts.
You will enhance your scientific and professional skills by working with cutting-edge bioinformatics approaches, cancer genomics data, and innovative computational methods within a collaborative research environment.
Human Technopole supports career development through training, mentoring and dedicated learning opportunities.
We are looking for a skilled bioinformatician with solid hands-on experience in cancer genomics and large-scale data analysis. You are comfortable working independently, can pick up ongoing projects quickly, and deliver reliable, reproducible analyses. computational biology, computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or a related field of science
~3+ years of hands-on experience in bioinformatics, including analysis of large datasets
~ Solid programming skills in R and Python
~ Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute
Experience in cancer genomics
Experience in single-cell data analysis
Familiarity with bioinformatic pipeline development and data quality control
Organisational and social skills
At HT, your discoveries contribute to a global effort to improve human health.
Why Human Technopole
HT offers an international and dynamic workplace, competitive welfare provisions, flexible working policies and relocation support. Researchers moving to Italy may benefit from attractive tax benefits. CV & Cover Letter (English)
This is a maternity leave contract offered under CCNL Chimico Farmaceutico, Level B2
the Foundation reserves, however, the right not to proceed with the awarding of the above-described assignment due to the effect of supervening regulatory provisions and/or obstructive circumstances.
