Job Description
Key Responsibilities
• Pre-Procedural Care: Assess patients prior to surgery; ensure all records are prepared for the CRNA and provider for consent.
• IV & Medication Management: Safely initiate peripheral IV access, maintain lines, and administer pre-operative medications (including IV antibiotics) according to physician orders and infection control standards. Maintain accurate drug counts alongside CRNAs and managers.
• Patient Transport: Safely transfer and accompany patients from the pre-op holding area into the operating room.
• Patient Positioning & Prepping: Assist anesthesia and the surgical team with safe patient positioning on the operating table. Prepare operative sites using approved skin-prepping protocols.
• Sterile Field Support: Work efficiently in and around the sterile field. Open and distribute sterile supplies that cannot be opened pre-operatively. Accurately document intraoperative procedure times and administered medications.
• Department Support: Assist with minor Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) requirements and address patient questions. Monitor and proactively communicate supply and anesthesia needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Licensure: Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required. PALS or CNOR certification is a plus.
• Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience, with prior experience in perioperative or procedural suites.
• Skills: Excellent peripheral IV placement skills, strong working knowledge of perioperative workflows, sharp critical thinking, adaptability, and clear communication skills to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
