Backus Hospital has served as the primary provider of healthcare for much of Eastern Connecticut since 1893. We are proud to house the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties and are the sole hospital in the area offering LIFE STAR helicopter services. A2 is an engaging 29-bed unit where a dedicated team of healthcare professionals provides high-quality, compassionate care to diverse patient populations, including medical-surgical, inpatient oncology, and hematology patients. Our nursing staff is highly skilled and deeply committed, working collaboratively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to deliver holistic, patient- and family-centered care. JOB SUMMARY
As a Registered Nurse, you will demonstrate clinical competence through the nursing process and develop meaningful nurse-patient relationships. You will assess and identify patient needs, establish a tailored plan of care, implement interventions, and evaluate the care provided to patients.
Qualifications
• Graduate of a nursing program; BSN preferred
• One year of RN experience required
• Current unrestricted State of CT Registered Nurse license
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Oncology Nurse (ONC) certification preferred
• Ability to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Basic understanding of nursing principles and practices. Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions. Effective communication skills to provide detailed information and instruction. Strong interpersonal skills essential for collaboration with departments, colleagues, physicians, managers, and patients. Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changes, and work as a team player. Capability to operate in a high-stress environment. Dedication to customer service. Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
This position requires a high level of analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources. Ability to respond appropriately to changes and emergency situations while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
