SUMMARY:
The Manager, Radiation Therapy, is responsible for the operational, clinical, financial, and personnel management of Radiation Therapy services in collaboration with the Director of Operations. This position oversees the daily activities of the Radiation Therapy department, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. The Manager collaborates with physicians, nursing leaders, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes, departmental performance, and strategic initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leadership & Operations
• Directs and oversees the daily operations of Radiation Therapy services.
• Ensures efficient patient scheduling, workflow management, and resource utilization.
• Develops and implements departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Director of Operations.
• Monitors and improves operational performance through productivity, quality, and patient satisfaction metrics.
• Collaborates with Oncology leadership to support strategic initiatives and service line growth.
• Facilitates process improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
Clinical Oversight
• Ensures Radiation Therapy services are delivered in accordance with professional standards, state and federal regulations, and accreditation requirements.
• Promotes a culture of patient safety and quality care.
• Monitors compliance with radiation safety standards and organizational policies.
• Supports quality assurance programs and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Partners with physicians, medical physicists, and dosimetrists to optimize treatment delivery and patient outcomes.
Human Resources Management
• Recruits, hires, onboards, trains, and retains qualified staff.
• Provides leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
• Conducts performance evaluations and establishes employee development plans.
• Manages staffing levels and scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage.
• Promotes employee engagement, accountability, and professional growth.
Financial Management
• Assists the Director of Operations with departmental budgeting and finance management.
• Monitors labor, supply, and equipment expenses.
• Identifies opportunities to improve financial performance while maintaining quality care.
• Assists with capital planning, technology upgrades, and equipment replacement recommendations.
• Ensures effective stewardship of departmental resources.
Regulatory & Compliance
• Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations, and organizational policies.
• Maintains readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys.
• Monitors documentation, quality metrics, and departmental compliance indicators.
• Ensures proper maintenance, testing, and inspection of radiation therapy equipment.
Other Duties
• Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
• Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
EXPERIENCE:
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in radiation therapy.
• Three (3) years of leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:
• Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Certified Therapy Technologist (CTT) required.
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of field related scanner use and application and the proper use to allow for accurate evaluation and reading by physicians.
• Knowledge of how to transfer images from disk to magnetic media to produce transparencies.
• Skill in placing the patient to ensure proper and most accurate scanning.
• Skill in providing quality control for completeness of transparencies and scans, and monitoring and using equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to listen to and accurately interpret others’ communications or instructions to take appropriate action.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to calculate figures, rates, ratios, and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs; and apply basic algebraic concepts.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
