Radiation Therapist Per Diem Special Procedures Navigator

The Radiation Therapist is in charge of delivering concentrated ionizing radiation to specific areas of the patient's body to address illnesses, specifically cancer. This role involves implementing individualized treatment plans crafted by radiation oncologists, specifying the kind, dosage, and duration of radiation therapy necessary for each patient. The role encompasses utilizing advanced technology like linear accelerators and other radiation delivery devices to accurately aim radiation beams at the targeted area.

Essential Job Function:
• Implements treatment protocols and boundaries to ensure precise delivery of radiation doses to targeted zones, with the aim of minimizing impact on surrounding healthy structures.
• Ensures patients are appropriately positioned on treatment tables to optimize the effectiveness of radiation therapy targeting.
• Conducts preliminary checks to validate that equipment settings correspond to the recommended treatment protocols.
• Carries out practice scenarios of procedures and offers patients insights into treatment procedures, potential side effects, and the anticipated progression of their sessions.
• Supports patients mentally, addressing their worries and enhancing their comfort during treatment.
• Institutes protective measures to ensure that patients, employees, and themselves are not subjected to excessive radiation during treatment sessions.
• Detailed notes regarding the treatment specifics, apparatus adjustments, patient responses, and relevant observations are provided.
• Keeps a close eye on patients for adverse effects and ensures smooth and efficient communication with the healthcare professionals regarding any shifts or alarms.
• Undertakes supplementary duties as directed.

Education:
• Required: Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program.

Experience:
• Preferred: 2 years of experience as a registered radiation therapist.

Licensure/Certification/Listing:
• Required: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
