## Radiation Therapist – UPMC Hillman Cancer Center (Cumberland, MD)

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is internationally recognized for leadership in the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer and is the region’s only National Cancer Institute–designated comprehensive cancer center. The Department of Radiation Oncology provides individualized care using state-of-the-art imaging and radiation delivery systems, with board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists collaborating across the health care spectrum. The program is accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), and Hillman is the largest ACRO-accredited system in the nation.

We are currently hiring a **Flex Full Time Radiation Therapist** for our UPMC Western Maryland Radiation Oncology Network office located at **12500 Willowbrook Rd, Cumberland, MD**. This position offers a **$15,000 sign-on bonus** and operates a **Regular Full Time daylight schedule, Monday through Friday**. The role is **on-site**.

The incumbent, under the direction of a radiation oncologist, delivers radiation treatments as prescribed and obtains localization images according to planned treatment delivery. You will assist the physician or nurse in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization, perform measurements for treatment calculations, collect and document simulation data, and accurately input treatment-related data into the verify-and-record system.

### Day-to-Day Responsibilities

- Perform treatment, simulation, fabrication of immobilization devices and shielding, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy procedures per written prescription and treatment plan.
- Take measurements for treatment calculations, collect and document simulation data, and accurately input treatment-related data.
- Ensure patient safety through consistent application of departmental treatment administration procedures. Recognize deviations from prescribed treatment delivery and report all deviations to the Chief Therapist or Physicist.
- Assure treatment quality by maintaining complete and accurate treatment records and taking portal images per department procedures.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients and families, respond to concerns, and refer medical questions to appropriate personnel.
- Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, take localization images according to planned treatment delivery and assist with contrast agent administration.
- Orient and supervise students during clinical rotations; assist the Chief Therapist in evaluating student performance.
- Observe patients for expected and unexpected reactions to treatments and communicate findings to appropriate staff. Reinforce patient education and side-effect management information; report non-compliance to medical or nursing staff.
- Maintain a safe, orderly treatment room.
- Provide On Call coverage as directed by the Radiation Oncology Manager.
- Demonstrate fluency in all computer applications necessary for the role.
- Assist at other UPMC Radiation Oncology locations if needed.
- Participate in regulatory compliance activities and maintain continuous readiness for inspections and surveys.
- Follow all radiation safety standards, wear radiation monitoring and ID badges at all times, and remain HIPAA compliant.
- Complete annual clinical competencies.
- Communicate equipment issues to site leadership.
- Participate in accurate charge capture, notify leadership of supply needs, maintain travel expenses per policy, and use resources effectively.
- Prioritize patient safety: perform and document daily and weekly QA for assigned equipment, document findings outside Physics-established ranges, and notify Chief Therapist immediately of abnormal findings.
- Participate in programs to measure and improve care quality (Press Ganey, Quality Improvement Measures, Chart Rounding, Department Meetings) and collaborate with the radiation oncologist, manager, and team to maintain high service standards.

### Qualifications & Requirements

- Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology program at a **JRCERT-accredited institution**.
- **Maryland Radiology Tech license** and **ARRT certification** as a Radiologic Technologist. ARRT Registration must be in good standing or Board Eligibility within six months of hire.
- Maintain 24 CEUs per biennium as required for ARRT Certification and licensure.
- **CPR certification** (based on AHA standards including both didactic and skills demonstration) required within 30 days of beginning employment.
- ARRT Certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required.
- Certified Radiation Therapy Technician.
- Act 34 clearance required.
