Job Title: Radiation Therapist FT

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and technically skilled Radiation Therapist to join our healthcare team. The Radiation Therapist will be responsible for delivering prescribed radiation treatments to patients while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, treatment accuracy, and quality care. The Radiation Therapist will work closely with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that each patient receives treatment according to the prescribed plan.

The Radiation Therapist will operate advanced radiation therapy equipment, position patients accurately, verify treatment plans, and monitor patients throughout treatment sessions. The Radiation Therapist must demonstrate strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide compassionate support to patients undergoing cancer treatment. The Radiation Therapist will explain treatment procedures, answer patient questions, maintain accurate records, and communicate any changes in patient condition to the appropriate healthcare professionals.

The Radiation Therapist will play an important role in helping patients receive safe and effective radiation therapy. The Radiation Therapist must understand radiation safety principles, treatment protocols, imaging procedures, patient positioning techniques, and equipment operation. A successful Radiation Therapist demonstrates professionalism, empathy, reliability, clinical judgment, and commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care.

Responsibilities:
• Participates in Quality Control monitoring.
• Delivers consistent precise therapy to a designated treatment area.
• Demonstrates skill in patient assessment, performing procedures and giving specialty care to patients, considering the age of the patient and appropriately adopts care for age (adolescent, adult and geriatrics).
• Documents appropriately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Demonstrates a willingness to perform additional tasks and gives assistance when necessary to others.
• Recognizes own limitations and/or needs and seeks assistance as needed.
• Reports adverse reactions to physician immediately and follows policy and procedure (P/P) for documentation.
• Educates patient/family on expected side effects, use of blocks, wedges and other treatment aids.
• Follows P/P to ensure precise treatment per physician prescription.
• Follows P/P to ensure precise treatment per physicists instruction in chart or computer.
• Understands and completes correctly all patient set-ups
• Simulates new patients and/or patients with new treatment fields with no errors and according to physicians written order in EMR.
• Schedules patients appropriately and always lets patient know of any changes prior to changes being made. Follows proper procedure to ensure safety to self and patient.
• Assesses mobility of patients and manages accordingly, looks at EMR for fall precautions.
• Wears radiation safety badges at all times.
• Practices universal precautions.
• Participates in daily warm-up procedures to ensure output is within tolerances
• Advises manager of any discrepancies and any material item that needs replaced or fixed as soon as possible
• Will do other tasks as assigned
• Participates in on-call rotation
• Is active as a student clinical instructor with both RTT and RTR students. Will evaluate and give feedback to both students and Clinical Advisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Education:
• Associates Other / Related Field or Accredited Program Other / Related Field

Certifications:
• ARRT-T - ARRT Radiation Therapy
• BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor

Experience:
• Minimum 2 years Experience in Radiation Therapy Preferred must be graduate of accredited radiation therapy program
