Job Description

Develops and leads bone marrow transplant (BMT) and Hematology/Oncology initiatives. The Quality Coordinator works in conjunction with the BMT Program Director to oversee BMT practice in the facility. In collaboration with medical, administrative, and clinical leadership, this position ensures compliance with regulatory agencies as listed below, creates and updates relevant program policies, performs audits to evaluate policy compliance, and initiates correction action when needed. Establishes effective strategies for service line initiatives, education and competency, physician collaboration, integration, outcomes, and resource utilization with the goal of increasing service line growth, efficiency, compliance, safety, and patient experience.

Responsibilities

Develops and promotes the service line’s vision, strategy, and goals, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

Ensure adherence to all BMT Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) standards, BMT policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and that performance indicators follow benchmarks and standards; if not, formulates a plan to be on track.

Ensures compliance with policies set forth by regulations and standards of the following Federal, state and/or medical regulatory agencies, including but not limited to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), FACT, and National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). Provides support and direction when indicators are not meeting targets to ensure successful corrective action.

Writes and submits FACT application in collaboration with BMT Program Director and BMT Coordinator.

Develops standard operating procedures for several critically important procedures and activities, including but not limited to training, continuing education, staff competency, quality assurance, records, and data management, safety and customer satisfaction.

Reviews with BMT Program Director and BMT clinical team new policies, procedures, and chemotherapy protocols and incorporates them into Policy Manager.

Identifies improvement opportunities and strategies; implement and monitor plans of improvement; review and compare results of new improvement initiatives.

Use performance and process improvement (PPI), project management and change management methods to support operational and clinical quality initiatives, improved performance and achieve organizational goals.

Lead quality initiatives, advancing the organization’s commitment to healthcare quality through collaboration, communication, and continuous learning.

Coordinates pertinent quality assurance reports from infection control, facilities management, housekeeping, biomedical engineering, patient relations, blood bank, apheresis, and performance improvement dept.

Leverage the organizations analytic environment to help guide data-driven decision-making and inform quality improvement initiatives.

Reports quality review and corrective action plan for reducing errors, variances, incidents and complaints to BMT Director and BMT QMP Steering Task Force.

Lead preparation for and manage external inspections and audits conducted by organizations such as FACT and Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR).

Reviews and audits specific performance and outcome parameters and methods to identify, evaluate, report, prevent and correct errors, accidents and adverse reactions in pediatric stem cell transplant.

Direct activities that support compliance with organization wide voluntary, mandatory, and contractual requirements for data acquisition, analysis, reporting, and improvement.

Ensures that providers and coordinator(s) are current with related specialty training.

Organizes QA and Morbidity and Mortality meetings as required by various accreditation and organizations.

Manages resource forecasting for business and financial resources determining gaps in resources, skills or training and develops strategies to fill those gaps.

Meets expectations of the applicable Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in health related field.
• Experience:

Education and/or Experience Preferred:

• Education:
• Master’s Degree in Nursing or health related field preferred
• Experience:
• Experience with FACT accreditation process preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in Bone Marrow Transplant and/or blood and tissue programs preferred.
• 2 years of quality management experience preferred.

License and/or Certification Required:

• Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:

• Must be knowledgeable of health care professional education and continuing educational requirements.
• Must be knowledgeable of health care professional education and continuing educational requirements.
• Must have strong knowledge of clinical care processes across all nursing clinical disciplines in the continuum of care and demonstrated expertise in the application of clinical technology to these processes, as well as maintain up to date and evidenced based practice.
• Knowledgeable on High-Reliability Principles and PDSA methodology.
• Must have knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Flowchart tools.

• Provides effective oral and written communications to staff to facilitate understanding, ownership and accomplishment of goals and objectives; excellent verbal and written skill
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, possesses good negotiating skill
