Mission Statement
Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.
Job Summary
The Project Manager, Rogel Cancer Center, is the Center's designated project manager and a full-time (1.0 FTE) role, with the reporting line, classification, and work arrangement still to be confirmed with HR. About 80% of the role is Center-wide project management. This includes serving as the point of contact for projects, maintaining a project inventory, and supporting leadership with intake and prioritization. It also covers building charters, schedules, and risk logs, and reporting status to sponsors and leadership. The role supports the strategic plan by turning priorities into tracked operational projects. It coordinates across Research Administration and the CCSG, Clinical Research, Finance, Communications, Community Outreach and Engagement, Shared Resources, HR, and IT. It manages consultants and vendors, supports deadline-driven work such as CCSG reporting and External Advisory Board preparation, drafts policies and procedures, and runs a portfolio of clinical research and Center initiatives from planning through close-out. The remaining 20% is administrative support to the clinical research teams and to the Deputy Director for Team and Transdisciplinary Research. That includes meeting logistics, calendars, retreats and workshops, rosters, CCSG metric tracking, BCRT website content, and operational lead for the TACR Annual Retreat. It requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent and project management experience (number of years to be confirmed with HR), with strong communication and organizational skills. Preferred qualifications include a project management certification and experience in an academic medical center or cancer center.
Responsibilities*
The Project Manager serves as the Rogel Cancer Center's central point of contact for project management. In that role, the Project Manager helps leaders and faculty scope, plan, and launch projects, and maintains a Center-wide inventory of active and proposed projects. The Project Manager also supports leadership in intake, prioritization, and sequencing so capacity matches strategic priorities. For each project, the role develops charters, scopes, schedules, RACI matrices, and risk, issue, and decision logs using a consistent methodology. It tracks action items, follows up with owners, and reports progress, risks, decisions needed, and milestones to sponsors and senior leadership through regular status updates and portfolio reviews. The role supports implementation of the Center's strategic plan by translating priorities into operational projects and tracking them. It coordinates work across Research Administration and the CCSG, Clinical Research, Finance, Communications, Community Outreach and Engagement, Shared Resources, Human Resources, and IT. It also manages consultants and vendors, supports time-sensitive deliverables such as CCSG reporting and External Advisory Board preparation, and drafts policies, procedures, and forms with the related communication and training. The Project Manager closes out projects with summaries and lessons learned, helps build project management practice across the administrative team, and runs a portfolio of clinical research and Center initiatives from planning through completion. In addition, the role provides administrative and operational support to the clinical research teams and to the Deputy Director for Team and Transdisciplinary Research. That includes meeting logistics, minutes, calendars, rosters, research retreats and workshops, CCSG metric tracking, BCRT website content, and operational coordination of the TACR Annual Retreat.
Required Qualifications*
• Education: a bachelor's degree in a related field (such as business, public health, health administration, or science), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: two to three years of project or program management experience, including managing several projects at the same time.
• Planning and tracking skills: the ability to plan, schedule, monitor, and complete projects using tools such as charters, schedules, risk logs, and status reports.

• Cross-functional coordination: experience coordinating people from different teams or departments without direct authority over them.
• Organization and discretion: strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment with confidential information.
• Administrative support skills: experience with calendar management, meeting logistics, agendas, and minutes, because about 20% of the role is administrative support.
• Technology: proficiency with Microsoft Office and project tracking tools.
Desired Qualifications*
• Not required: a PMP or CAPM certification, a cancer center or clinical research background, and CCSG experience.
