Job Description
Under general supervision of the office supervisor and medical staff follows established policies and procedures; gathers and records all necessary information to assist with financially clearing a hospital or TGMG procedure or service.
What You Will Do
• Responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographics, confidential clinical and financial information necessary to accurately and efficiently schedule patient visits, surgery, and other hospital procedures.
• Assists with patient check in’s, insurance notifications and authorizations for oncology scheduled hospital and TGMG services to support claim processing and reimbursement. follow up calls post-surgery and appointment to patients and answers all staff messages.
• Recognizes and adheres to all CMS, JCAHO, and HIPAA requirements when validating the hospital account.
• Works directly with nurses, medical staff, ancillary departments, insurance carriers, care management/utilization, HIMS, scheduling, and other external professionals to assist patients with obtaining health care and financial services.
• Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital
• (2) years experience with scheduling, registration, insurance verification in a healthcare setting.
Skills And Abilities
• Moderate expertise with computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Database programs.
• Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise required to ensure all necessary demographic, clinical, insurance and financial information is obtained and verified prior to the date of service.
• Requires moderate organizational skills to complete scheduling, pre-registration, insurance verification and appropriate follow up within acceptable time frames.
• Requires above average knowledge of medical terminology and has the ability to quickly comprehend and accurately spell a multitude of surgical and diagnostic procedures during scheduling.
• Ability to know when special equipment or instructions may be required when scheduling.
• Knowledge of how and when to schedule pre-op testing within established guidelines and with a high level of accuracy.
• Knowledge of the scheduling systems and a keen awareness of the impact of accurate and appropriate scheduling.
• Demonstrates level of expertise in order to generate a hospital account according to CMS and JCAHO requirements.
