Physician - Hematology and Oncology - Hematologist/Oncologist

Opportunity Overview:

We are seeking a Hematology & Oncology physician for a locum tenens opportunity supporting outpatient oncology services and inpatient/ER consultations. The physician will provide coverage across Chambersburg and Waynesboro, PA.
This is primarily an outpatient practice with limited inpatient consultation responsibilities. The physician will work alongside an established clinical team and will not be the sole provider on site.

Schedule:

Monday Friday: 8:00 AM 4:30 PM
Full-time ongoing coverage preferred
Minimum coverage accepted: 3 days per week
Weekend and night call required as part of the rotation
Call rotation: approximately 1 week per month
Call includes both inpatient and phone/ER consultations
Typical call volume: 0 2 calls per day
Clinical Responsibilities:

Provide outpatient Hematology & Oncology care
Support inpatient and ER teams with Hem/Onc consultations and patient-care guidance
Provide inpatient consultations before or after clinic as needed
Respond to secure hospital communications during clinic hours
Participate in weekend and night call
Participate in tumor board
Serve as a supervising physician for one morning and one afternoon each week to address urgent patient needs when other providers are out of the office
Coordinate with radiation oncology, with assistance from a dedicated navigator
Typical Clinic Day:

• Average patients/day: Approximately 15
• Approximately 2 new patients per day
• Remaining visits consist of treatment and follow-up patients
• 2/3 Oncology / 1/3 Hematology

~ Typical appointment lengths:
• 20 minutes pre-treatment and established follow-ups
• 40 minutes new Hematology consultations and hospital follow-ups
• 60 minutes new Oncology consultations
• Inpatient rounding/consultation may require approximately 1 2 hours , as needed

Patient Population:

Adult patients only
No pediatric patients
Common oncology diagnoses include:
Lung cancer
Breast cancer
Prostate cancer
Colorectal cancer
Other community-based oncology cases

~ Some blood cancers are referred to tertiary centers

Treatment & Infusion Services:

The practice treats Hematology & Oncology patients in the clinic, including:

Chemotherapy
Immunotherapy
IVIG

IV iron
Non-chemotherapy injections
Hospitals have infusion centers supporting:

Port labs
Infusions
Injections
Transfusions
Chemotherapy is not administered at the hospitals.
Procedures:

Bone marrow biopsies: Not required
Lumbar punctures: Not required
Port access: Performed by RNs
BMT consultation/care: Not required
Radiation oncology coordination supported by a navigator
Support & Practice Environment:

• 1 Nurse Practitioner
• 1 Virtual Hematologist
• Physician will have other providers available and will not be the sole provider on site
• Established clinical support team
• Nuance dictation system
• Participation in tumor board required

Acute care hospital setting
Approximately 274 beds
Requirements:

Board Certification required
Hematology & Oncology fellowship required
Pennsylvania license preferred
Willingness to obtain Pennsylvania licensure or consideration of IMLC
DEA and other required credentials must be maintained
