POSITION SUMMARY:
The Phone Triage Nurse works within the RN or LPN scope of practice as defined by the NM Board of Nursing to monitor and return phone calls related to NMCC patients and consults with physicians when appropriate. Supports Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Pulmonary in all triage processes, as well as provides supportive care to walk-in patients with acute care issues. The Phone Triage Nurse also reinforces and adheres to the core values of the company in order to achieve the mission and vision while adhering to NMCC nursing policies and procedures.

Essential Functions Statement(s):
• Triage patients’ phone calls, ensuring quality patient care and adherence to standardized nursing procedures.
• Provides Triage support for outlying clinics.
• Utilizes Triage Pathways for acute care patient phone calls.
• Schedules appropriately based on patient need and triage pathways.
• Provides supportive care for patients with acute care walk-in issues and schedules appropriately based on need.
• Performs charting and updating of records into the EMR as necessary.
• Provides patient and family support.
• Provides education to patients, families and significant others through telephone interaction.
• Acts as an information resource for healthcare professionals, patients and the public.
• Adheres to established policies, procedures, quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Trains and guides other nursing and support staff engaged in departmental clinical activities.
• Participates in and initiates performance improvement activities within the department.
• Responds to Rapid Response Team calls and provides care as necessary including role of recorder.
Requirements
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education and Experience:
• Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school) for RN. High School Graduate/ Graduation from an accredited school of Licensed Practical/Vocational Nursing
• Two plus years related experience.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, physicians, radiation therapists, or RTT’s and other employees.
Computer Skills:
Intermediate to advanced computer skills
Certificates & Licenses:
• Current RN or LPN licensure in New Mexico/OCN certification preferred for RNs/CPR certification.
• CPR Certified.
• All licensed staff follows New Mexico guidelines governing scope of practice/Current ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card preferred for RNs
