Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Pharmacy Manager specializing in Hematology and Oncology to lead our specialized pharmacy team. Must Have:
• Completed a degree in Pharmacy (Bachelor’s or PharmD).
• PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY-2 Pharmacy Specialty or HSPAL Residency or PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and 2 years of pertinent experience or 4 years of pertinent experience
• Licensed as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the hire date.
Duties
• Operational Management: Manage daily pharmacy operations, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that support safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmacy services. Oversee medication management processes including procurement, preparation, storage, and distribution to ensure accuracy and safety in all settings. Assist with project management, including planning, execution, stakeholder engagement, and presenting findings to senior leadership. Oversee high cost drug utilization for the ambulatory areas utilizing Hematology/Oncology and other high cost specialty drugs. Provide on-call support as required, maintaining readiness to address urgent pharmacy operational and clinical needs. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and support audits and regulatory inspections as needed. Must possess self-management skills and require little to no supervision. This person must be self-motivating, have a strong work ethic and must have the ability to self-identify issues or opportunities that require attention and change.
• Leadership and Human Resource Management: Supervise and provide leadership to pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy liaisons and support personnel, to maintain high standards of service and safety. Manage human resource functions, including recruitment, performance evaluations, staff development, training, orientation, scheduling, and disciplinary actions when necessary. Create and maintain a healthy work environment where staff feel supported, accountable, and engaged in organizational initiatives. Essential duties include: Being engaged in the department, including managing up, owning team decisions, and supporting departmental and organizational initiatives. Hold self and others to the highest ethical standards, and act with honor above all. Regularly schedule meetings with direct reports. Effective human resource management, including effectively disciplining people, recognizing people, completing performance evaluations, and guiding people in professional development. Acts as a liaison to and communicates regularly with interdisciplinary leadership teams. Stays current with trends and developments in pharmacy practice and healthcare.
• Financial and Budget Management: Participate in budget development and financial management, including identifying cost-saving opportunities and managing drug budgets effectively. Support financial processes such as forecasting needs, conducting financial assessments of value. Assist with the management of productivity, with a focus on schedule creation and management but including the development of a knowledge of metrics, awareness of performance in real time and demonstrating an a ability to adjust to meet productive standards through flexing staff, adjusting schedules, and proactive flexible position control (e.g. recommending to the inpatient senior leadership team the reduction of core FTEs through attrition or layoffs, replacing full FTEs with part time and per diems, effectively using a per diem pool etc.).
• Clinical and Educational Collaboration: Collaborate with haematology and oncology clinical teams to develop and implement clinical programs that enhance patient care and optimize therapeutic outcomes. Develop and implement training programs for pharmacy staff, the PGY2 oncology pharmacy resident, and students, to ensure clinical and operational competency and foster professional development and continuous learning. Train and mentor pharmacy staff according to defined outcome expectations and responsibilities, supporting education and maximizing professional potential.
• Quality Assurance and Process Improvement: Lead quality assurance initiatives and process improvement projects to enhance efficiency and safety within the pharmacy department and support departmental goals. Utilize the hospital's values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission. Work with the medication safety officer for review and/or follow up of safety reports and concerns related to the area.
Experience
• REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have completed a degree in Pharmacy (Bachelor’s or PharmD). Experience: PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY-2 Pharmacy Specialty or HSPAL Residency or PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and 2 years of pertinent experience or 4 years of pertinent experience
• PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience in Hematology / Oncology with an Advance Degree (Master’s, MBA) and/or completion of an accredited residency with some leadership experience highly preferred.
• CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Work requires licensure as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the hire date.
Pay: $160,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
