Job Description

The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to join their Hematology-Oncology division as a member of the Psychosocial Oncology Program (POP) Team. This role involves working within an integrated care model to assess and manage the mental health aspects of pediatric cancer care. The ARNP will conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, facilitate referrals to psychosocial resources, provide therapeutic support, and manage psychiatric medications for children affected by cancer.

• The Psychosocial Oncology Program (POP) is a multidisciplinary team working with children and families affected by cancer.

• The role is within the Hematology-Oncology division of the UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics.

• Works in an integrated care model with the medical oncology team.

• The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is part of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and a member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG).

Responsibilities

• Obtain and document a comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history; perform and document complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.

• Focus on the social, emotional, and cognitive aspects of pediatric oncology care and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.

• Provide healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care of patients and manage patient's overall care, initiate appropriate referrals and consultations, and identify expected outcomes for diagnoses.

• Order, perform, interpret, and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information, and diagnostic procedures where indicated.

• Form differential diagnoses and treat acute and chronic conditions.

• Prescribe therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic to achieve expected outcomes.

• Utilize evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.

• Facilitate the patient's transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.

Shift & Schedule

• Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm or 4 days per week 10-hour days.

Requirements

• A master's degree is required.

• Master's degree in nursing is preferred.

• If master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.

• A Current RN license from the State of Iowa is required.

• Current ARNP license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision, critical thinking/problem solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to perform technical skill and function as an independent practitioner defined by collaborative practice agreement according to Iowa Board of Nursing, and UI Health Care standards.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

• Federal DEA license.

• Highly Desired: Demonstrated experience of one to three years in the care of pediatric patients or experience that demonstrates knowledge in the care of pediatric patients.

• Highly Desired: Current certification in the area of psychiatry such as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

• Highly Desired: Knowledge and experience in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.

• Highly Desired: Knowledge and experience in ambulatory care.
