Job Overview
A new, exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, organised and motivated individuals to join Cancer Services & Clinical Haematology as a Patient Navigator.
The role involve working closely with Clinical staff within tumour groups. Post holders will be required to provide an efficient referral service to Cancer Services, managing the flow of New Patients, through a single point of access to Cancer Services, and appointing appropriate appointments within their pathway targets and meeting cancer targets. They will liaise with clinical teams, external health care providers and Speciality teams within the Trust. The ability to work independently and follow the policies and procedures for your department is essential. The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility, reliability, must have an organised approach to work and attention to detail are all essential to help support patient flow through the service. Though the job can be challenging at times it is also rewarding.
The role has lots of variety and ad-hoc demands and the post holders must possess excellent time management and planning skills. The position provides the opportunity to work within a very supportive and welcoming team and to further develop existing knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job
• Requesting scans and results from relevant external Healthcare providers
• Make New Patient appointments in the appropriate clinics within the required timescale and ensuring cancer targets are met
• Talking to patients over the telephone and ensuring that their queries are dealt with efficiently
• Working with other departments within the board including Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy team
• Ad hoc duties as requested by the clinical team
• Working within a team of Patient Navigators and admin support, led by the Clinic Co-ordinator, to provide a comprehensive Referral Service
• Communicate with Consultants, Medical Staff and other clinical members of their team i.e. Specialist Nurses
• Communicate with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of the medical staff
• Provide cover for Pathway Navigator/Clinic Co-ordinator as required
• Cover Administrator Support posts Trust wide as required
• To manage the flow of patients through the single point of access service
• Managing administration of referral spreadsheets

• To manage the flow of patients through the single point of access service
• Ensure efficiency of appointment system; monitor the flow of patients into the system and report any concerns
• Liaise with relevant staff from various health care settings reporting issues and or concerns
• To maintain awareness of service delivery developments and contribute to the implementation of change within the service
• To provide a comprehensive, administrative and clerical support for the Team including issue logs
• Receive and make calls as required

• NVQ Level 3 in business administration or equivalent qualification / experience
• Good standard of education (GSCE standard or equivalent)
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
• Experience of data inputting and assisting with audits
• Experience of dealing with patients, public and other health care staff
• Experience of working within a health care administrative setting
• Experience of working with information technology
• Understanding of confidentiality issues
• Previous administrative experience
• Substantial knowledge and experience of Systmone or other Newcastle Hospitals Community EPR system
• Knowledge of electronic patient record system
Desirable criteria
• Experience of working in a health care setting
