Position Details
Setting:
• Inpatient consult service at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA
• Potential for Outpatient clinic coverage at our Harbour View Palliative Care Clinic in Suffolk, VA
• Rare cross-coverage possible at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA
• Adult/Geriatric population only
• Average 6–8 patients per day
Schedule:
• Full-time, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM
• Four 10-hour shifts with a rotating day off
• No call
What You’ll Do
• Provide expert palliative care services to patients, focusing on symptom management, emotional support, and improving quality of life.
• Work closely with inter disciplinary team to deliver holistic and patient-centered care
• Provide comprehensive palliative care consultations to patients with serious, chronic, or terminal illnesses. Manage symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and breathlessness through pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
• Conduct meaningful goals-of-care conversations, advance care planning, and end-of-life discussions
• Facilitate patient and family discussions around goals of care, advance directives, and treatment preferences.
• Collaborate with physicians, social workers, chaplains, and other team members to create individualized care plans.
• Assist in transitioning patients to hospice care when appropriate, ensuring continuity of care.
• Use robust tools including EPIC, MyChart, and DAX CoPilot/AI documentation support
• Contribute to a warm, patient-centered environment where dignity, comfort, and communication are key
What We’re Looking For
• Required: 3–5 years of practice experience in palliative care, critical care and/or hospice care
• MSN, Virginia Licensure (or ability to obtain) and Board Certification as FNP, ACNP or AGNP
• BLS Certification
• A provider who demonstrates emotional intelligence, compassion, and a patient-first mindset
• Someone who values teamwork, communication, and a mission-driven approach to care
What We Offer
• Up to $5,000 relocation reimbursement (>50 miles)
• Guaranteed base salary of $122,274.00 + bonus on attainment of quality goals annually
• 32 days ATO per year for holidays, CME, and other out-of-office time- front loaded (not accrued) and prorated based on start date
• Up to 8 weeks for Parental Time Off - birth or adoption
• Annual $3,000 CME allowance
• 403b retirement savings plus matching on first 4%
