Pediatric Vision Care is looking for an optician who genuinely enjoys working with children and families and wants to be part of a growing pediatric practice. At Bright Eyes, children are the reason we exist. We want every child to have a positive experience with eye care and feel comfortable and confident in their glasses. We're looking for someone who is caring, dependable, detail-oriented, and excited to help build something from the beginning.
Schedule: 32 hours/week, 4-day workweek 3-day weekend every week.
Compensation: $18–$24+/hour, based on experience, skills, certifications, and level of responsibility.
What You'll Do
- Help children and their parents select frames that fit their needs, personality, and lifestyle.
- Make frame selection a fun and positive experience for children.
- Take accurate eyewear measurements and enter prescription and order information correctly.
- Order, track, receive, inspect, and dispense eyewear.
- Adjust and troubleshoot eyewear and assist families with repairs and other eyewear concerns.
- Educate parents about lens options and confidently make recommendations based on their child's prescription, visual needs, and lifestyle.
- Provide a warm, positive experience for every family, both in person and over the phone.
- Help families understand eyewear options and pricing.
- Track eyewear orders and communicate with families to ensure orders are completed and received in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate patient and eyewear records.
- Work closely with the doctor and other team members to provide excellent patient care.
- Help keep the optical area organized, welcoming, and fun for children.
- Learn and stay current on pediatric eyewear, lenses, and optical products.
Bright Eyes is a self-pay practice. We do not bill vision insurance, but we provide itemized receipts/superbills for families seeking out-of-network reimbursement and assist with questions when appropriate.
What We're Looking For
- Previous optician experience in an optometric or optical practice preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
- Someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and is comfortable interacting with children of different ages and personalities.
- Patient, friendly, empathetic, and able to make children feel comfortable.
- Confident discussing eyewear and lens options with parents and helping them choose what is appropriate for their child's needs.
- Strong attention to detail, especially when taking measurements and entering or ordering prescriptions.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Organized and able to multitask.
- Reliable, flexible, and willing to jump in wherever needed.
- Comfortable learning new technology and practice systems.
- A collaborative attitude and ability to work well with others.
- Takes initiative and looks for ways to make the practice better.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA requirements.
- Open to learning and growing as the practice grows.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year of optician or related optical experience preferred.
- ABO certification is a plus, but not required.
- Equivalent education, experience, or training will be considered.
Technology
- Comfortable using computers, email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with an electronic medical record and scheduling system preferred.
- Able to quickly learn new software and technology.
