Oncology Physician Assistant

The Advanced Practice Provider Oncology Float provides healthcare to patients with an emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion, health maintenance, and supportive care. Operating independently and collaboratively, the APP diagnoses, prescribes treatment, manages, and evaluates patient care while serving as an educator, consultant, and patient advocate. This role floats to all NCI locations to assist physicians in ensuring total patient care and interacts directly with patients and families to maximize care quality.

Responsibilities

• Provide healthcare to patients with an emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion, health maintenance, and supportive care

• Work independently as well as collaboratively to diagnose, prescribe treatment, manage and evaluate patient care

• Function as an educator, healthcare resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate

• Apply knowledge of growth and development in patient interactions and perform other related duties

• Demonstrate professional development and clinical competency with knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and medical care for patients of all ages according to the practice specialty

• Float to all NCI locations and serve in a clinical role to assist the physician in ensuring total patient care

• Interact directly with patients and patient families to maximize quality patient care

• Maintain a signed Collaborative Agreement and valid DEA number if writing prescriptions for controlled substances

Requirements

• Three years of experience in nursing and must have hospital and/or payer credentialing completed before functioning in this role

• Master Degree

• National Nurse Practitioner

• Nurse Practitioner

• Registered Nurse

• Desired: Three years in oncology nursing
