Locum Tenens Hematology/Oncology Physician – Greenville, South Carolina
Board-certified Hematology/Oncology physicians seeking locum tenens jobs in South Carolina can make a meaningful impact in a collaborative medical oncology practice in Greenville. This temporary physician opportunity offers a balanced clinical role involving outpatient oncology, inpatient coverage, hematology, and participation in multidisciplinary tumor board discussions. Locum Tenens Physician Job Details
• Specialty: Medical Oncology / Hematology-Oncology
• Practice Setting: Free-standing cancer center with outpatient and inpatient oncology services
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $7,200-$8,520
• Location: Greenville, South Carolina
• Start Date: November 2, 2026
• Assignment Duration: Approximately 13 weeks, through February 1, 2027
• Primary Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; 8-hour days
• Call Schedule: Weekend call rotation approximately every fifth or sixth weekend, from Friday at 4:30 p.m. through Monday at 8:00 a.m.; call schedule is approximately one week every 6-8 weeks
• Clinical Volume: Approximately 25 outpatient patients per day and up to 20 hospital patients per day during inpatient coverage; providers must be comfortable treating more than 12 patients per day
• Practice Composition: Approximately 65% benign hematology and 35% malignant oncology
• Coverage Need: Candidates able to provide 2-4 weeks of coverage per month are preferred
• Documentation System: Epic electronic medical record
Hematology/Oncology Physician Requirements
• At least 1 year of clinical experience in hematology and oncology
• Board certification in Hematology/Oncology
• Active South Carolina physician license
• Current BLS certification
• Active DEA registration
• Willingness to provide both outpatient medical oncology and inpatient oncology coverage is required
• Ability to manage a high-volume clinical practice and treat more than 12 patients per day
• Successful background clearance
• Comfort with Epic electronic medical records
Medical Oncology Physician Responsibilities
• Provide outpatient medical oncology and hematology care for adult and geriatric patients
• Participate in inpatient oncology coverage, including hospital consultations and rounding
• Evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and monitor response to therapy
• Manage benign hematology conditions and malignant oncology diagnoses
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings
• Support the management of bone marrow transplant patients and blood bank-related clinical needs
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests and imaging studies
• Prescribe medications and coordinate treatment plans with the oncology care team
• Collaborate with oncology nurses and advanced practice professionals to promote safe, comprehensive patient care
• Work with the clinical team to support continuity of care across outpatient and inpatient settings
